Kashi Tamil Sangamam 3.0 Registration Launched
The Union Minister for Education, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, recently announced the launch of the registration portal for the third edition of the Kashi Tamil Sangamam (KTS). This significant event is set to take place from February 15 to February 24, 2025, in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The registration portal, hosted by IIT Madras, will remain open until February 1, 2025. This initiative aims to celebrate the deep-rooted cultural and civilizational ties between Tamil Nadu and Kashi, reinforcing the spirit of “Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat.”
Significance of Kashi Tamil Sangamam
Kashi Tamil Sangamam is more than just an event; it is a celebration of the historical and cultural connections between Tamil Nadu and Kashi. The initiative was conceptualized by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to honor these bonds. During the press conference, Minister Pradhan emphasized that the event would highlight the legacy of Maharishi Agastya, a revered sage whose contributions are integral to India’s cultural and spiritual heritage.
Maharishi Agastya is often regarded as the father of Tamil language and literature. His teachings and philosophies have significantly influenced various fields, including health, science, and linguistics. The KTS 3.0 will serve as a platform to explore these contributions through exhibitions, seminars, and workshops. This year’s event holds special significance as it coincides with the Mahakumbh and marks the first Sangamam following the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ of Shri Ram Lalla in Ayodhya.
The event aims to bring together scholars, students, and cultural enthusiasts from both regions, fostering a sense of unity and shared heritage. The Minister encouraged the people of Tamil Nadu to participate wholeheartedly, emphasizing the importance of cultural exchange in today’s globalized world.
Activities and Participation
Kashi Tamil Sangamam 3.0 will feature a variety of activities designed to engage participants and celebrate the rich cultural tapestry of Tamil Nadu and Kashi. The event will include exhibitions showcasing the life and contributions of Sage Agastya, as well as seminars and workshops on various topics related to Tamil culture and heritage.
In preparation for the event, competitions and awareness programs will be organized in major cities across India and abroad, targeting areas with significant Tamil diaspora. The government plans to bring around 1,000 delegates from Tamil Nadu, categorized into five groups: students, farmers, professionals, women, and startups. Additionally, 200 students of Tamil origin studying in various Central Universities will also participate, further strengthening the bond between the two regions.
The tour for participants will last eight days, with four days allocated for travel and four days for activities at the site. The first group will depart Tamil Nadu on February 13, 2025, and the last group will return on February 26, 2025. This structured approach aims to ensure a meaningful experience for all participants.
Collaborative Efforts and Future Goals
The Kashi Tamil Sangamam is organized by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with various other ministries, including Culture, Textiles, and Tourism. This multi-ministerial effort aims to create a platform for scholars, artisans, and cultural practitioners from both regions to share their knowledge and experiences. The initiative aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes integrating traditional Indian knowledge systems with modern education.
The previous editions of Kashi Tamil Sangamam in 2022 and 2023 saw overwhelming participation, with around 4,000 delegates from Tamil Nadu. The event has successfully fostered cultural exchange and strengthened ties between the two regions. IIT Madras and Banaras Hindu University (BHU) will continue to serve as the implementing agencies for this initiative.
As KTS 3.0 approaches, the government is optimistic about the event’s potential to deepen the cultural connections between Tamil Nadu and Kashi. The focus on youth participation and the celebration of shared heritage will play a crucial role in promoting cultural unity in India.
