S-VYASA University Expands with New Campus

The School of Advanced Studies at Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (S-VYASA) has taken a significant step forward with the inauguration of its new campus in Bengaluru. Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Shri J P Nadda, officiated the opening ceremony, which also saw the launch of two innovative platforms: DIGI-Vyasa and Vyasa TV. This new campus aims to blend traditional Indian knowledge systems with modern education, focusing on holistic wellness and academic excellence.

A Vision for Holistic Education

S-VYASA University is dedicated to advancing education in Yoga, Naturopathy, and Ayurveda. The new campus emphasizes a unique approach that integrates traditional practices with modern educational techniques. It aims to create a transformative learning environment that prepares students for the challenges of the contemporary world. The campus will offer specialized programs in Engineering, Computer Applications, and Management, all while incorporating Yoga into the curriculum.

The tagline “Education Meets Industry” reflects the university’s commitment to bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world applications. By fostering partnerships with various industries, S-VYASA provides students with access to cutting-edge technology and innovative practices. This approach not only enhances the educational experience but also prepares graduates to excel in their respective fields.

Government Initiatives in Healthcare

During the inauguration, Minister Nadda highlighted the government’s commitment to a holistic healthcare system. He noted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s leadership, significant policy changes have been made to integrate the AYUSH system with modern medicine. This integration allows practitioners of modern medicine to refer patients to AYUSH treatments when appropriate, and vice versa.

Nadda emphasized that this collaborative approach is already yielding positive outcomes. The establishment of 22 All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), each equipped with an AYUSH block, exemplifies this synergy. Such initiatives aim to create a healthcare system that is comprehensive and inclusive, benefiting patients through a variety of treatment options.

Strengthening AYUSH Research and Global Collaboration

The Minister also discussed the global reach of the AYUSH system, mentioning collaborations with 103 countries. He pointed out that the World Health Organization (WHO) has initiated a Global Traditional Medicine Centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat. This center is set to become a hub for research and innovation in traditional medicine, further solidifying India’s position in the global healthcare landscape.

Nadda noted that the establishment of a 600-bed All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) marks a significant step in integrating traditional medicine with modern scientific practices. Additionally, the Central Research Institute of Yoga and Naturopathy (CRIYN) and the National Institute of Naturopathy in Pune are pivotal in promoting the AYUSH system within mainstream healthcare.

Research and Development in AYUSH

The Minister underscored the importance of research in the AYUSH sector. He stated that the establishment of Centres of Excellence has significantly strengthened research efforts. These centers collaborate with various scientific and medical research organizations, including the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

Nadda praised S-VYASA’s research center, Anvehsan, for its contributions to the field. The center has produced over 1,000 research papers published in leading international journals, earning global recognition. This focus on research not only enhances the credibility of AYUSH practices but also promotes their acceptance within the broader healthcare system.
