World Milk Day: History
World Milk Day was celebrated for the first time in 2001 and several countries participated. In 2001, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) proclaimed June 1st as World Milk Day in order to celebrate the contribution of the dairy sector to sustainability, economic development, livelihoods, and nutrition. The number of participating countries is increasing every year. On a national and international level, a variety of activities have been planned to commemorate this day. World Milk Day is observed to raise awareness of the nutrient value of milk and the necessity for its inclusion in the diet.
In addition to demonstrating milk is a global food, the fact that many countries choose to celebrate this on the same day emphasizes the importance of individual national celebrations.
World Milk Day: Significance
The main objective of World Milk Day is to make people aware of the importance of milk in a person’s life.
