On August 15, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the nation in celebrating India’s 78th Independence Day from the historic Red Fort in Delhi. In a ceremony marked by grandeur and national pride, PM Modi will unfurl the National Flag and deliver the customary address to the nation from the ramparts of the iconic monument. This year’s Independence Day celebrations are centered around the theme ‘Viksit Bharat @ 2047’, reflecting the Government’s ambitious goal of transforming India into a developed nation by 2047.
In a bid to increase public participation in this national event, around 6,000 special guests have been invited to witness the celebrations at the Red Fort. These guests, representing various walks of life—including youth, tribal communities, farmers, and women—have achieved excellence in their respective fields with the support of various government schemes. Notably, the event will also be attended by students benefiting from initiatives like the Atal Innovation Mission and the PM SHRI scheme, as well as volunteers from Mera Yuva Bharat and the National Service Scheme under the ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ program.
Special recognition will be given to tribal artisans, beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, and representatives from Farmers Producing Organisations. Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs), Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs), Anganwadi workers, and other women representatives will also be part of this distinguished gathering. The Indian contingent from the recent Paris Olympics, workers from the Border Roads Organisation, and sarpanches from Gram Panchayats that achieved saturation in priority sector schemes are among the invited guests.
The ceremony will begin with Prime Minister Modi being received at the Red Fort by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, and Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane. After a general salute and inspection of the Guard of Honour, consisting of personnel from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Delhi Police, the Prime Minister will proceed to the ramparts of the Red Fort to unfurl the National Flag. This will be accompanied by a 21 Gun Salute, commanded by Major Sabnis Kaushik, using indigenous 105mm Light Field Guns.
A highlight of the ceremony will be the showering of flower petals by two Advanced Light Helicopters Dhruv of the Indian Air Force, followed by PM Modi’s address to the nation. The event will conclude with the National Anthem, sung by 2,000 National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets who will form the ‘My à¤à¤¾à¤°à¤¤â€™ logo using customized tricolour kits. Additionally, 500 National Service Scheme (NSS) Volunteers will participate in the celebrations, making it a day of unity, pride, and renewed commitment to the nation’s future.
