New Academic Building Unveiled at NIEPA to Boost Education Initiatives

In a significant stride for educational development, Union Minister for Education, Shri Pralhad Joshi, inaugurated the new Academic Building and Main Entrance Gate of the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) in New Delhi today. This state-of-the-art facility aims to enhance NIEPA’s capabilities in both national and international programs, as well as its academic and research functionalities.

During the inauguration, Minister Joshi emphasized the critical role of strong infrastructure in executing educational objectives effectively. Referencing an old Sanskrit adage, he stated, “A healthy body is essential for performing one’s duties. Similarly, strong infrastructure is essential for carrying out important work effectively.” He expressed optimism that the new building will bolster NIEPA’s capacity to broaden its activities, highlighting the pressing need to expedite such efforts.

Shri Joshi also discussed the institute’s pivotal role in implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. He pointed out its commitment to identifying challenges in execution and collaborating with state governments to address them. The Minister reiterated the necessity of moving away from rote learning and fostering a deeper conceptual understanding, a key tenet of NEP 2020.

He showcased initiatives like the PM Vidyalaxmi Scheme, which has facilitated the disbursement of ₹60,000 crores in soft loans aimed at improving higher education. Additional digital learning platforms such as SWAYAM and DIKSHA were mentioned, which have significantly increased access to quality educational resources across the country. These initiatives support the goal of empowering young individuals with skills and knowledge necessary to address both national and global challenges.

The inauguration event was attended by prominent officials including Ms. Deepti Gaur Mukherjee, Secretary of the Department of Higher Education; Prof. Rama Shanker Dubey, Chancellor of NIEPA; and Prof. Shashikala Wanjari, Vice-Chancellor of NIEPA. Their presence further underscores the collaborative efforts towards advancing education in India.
