Mukesh Ambani Emotional as Anant, Akash, and Isha Reflect on Reliance’s Journey During Jio Listing Event

Reliance Industries’ Jio Platforms Limited made a strong debut on the stock market, listing at Rs 1,359 on both the BSE and NSE. This represents a premium of 21.36% over its IPO issue price of Rs 1,119 per share. The public issue, valued at Rs 30,213 crore, was oversubscribed 22.19 times, making it the largest IPO in India to date and valuing the digital services business at over Rs 10 lakh crore.
Emotional Ceremony for the Ambani Family
The listing ceremony was marked by emotional moments for Reliance chairman Mukesh Ambani, who watched as his children spoke about the family legacy and Jio’s journey. Accompanied by his wife, Nita Ambani, the 69-year-old chairman listened intently as Isha, Akash, and Anant Ambani addressed the audience before the bell-ringing ceremony. This event was particularly significant as it marked Reliance’s first listing in two decades.
Isha Ambani, executive director of Reliance Retail Ventures, reflected on the company’s beginnings, recalling a family dinner where Mukesh Ambani reminisced about Reliance’s first public offering in 1977. She emphasized her commitment to building the business and creating value for shareholders, recalling her grandfather Dhirubhai Ambani’s maxim, “Growth is life.” She noted that Akash had worked for 13 years to establish Jio as India’s largest telecom company, boasting over 53 crore subscribers.
Jio’s Growth and Investor Interest
Anant Ambani, executive director of Reliance Industries, highlighted the origins of Jio, stating that the idea was planted by Isha and nurtured by Akash. He spoke about Reliance’s transformation, from the barren land of Jamnagar to the world’s largest refinery, and the vision of providing internet access to every village in India. He noted that the IPO received demand worth Rs 7.5 lakh crore through 1.3 crore applications, with the issue fully subscribed within 95 minutes of its launch.
The Ambani family rang the bell at 10 am, and by 11:01 am, Jio Platforms shares were trading at Rs 1,358.7, reflecting a 21.42% increase, while the benchmark index saw a decline of 0.89%.
Akash Ambani’s Vision for the Future
Akash Ambani, managing director of Jio Platforms, described the listing as a “start line” rather than a finish line. He pledged to elevate the company and enhance investor wealth, following the legacy of Reliance Industries over nearly 50 years. He stated that the next generation’s responsibility is to expand Jio’s impact and make it more meaningful for India.
He emphasized Jio’s role in democratizing data in its first decade and outlined plans to make emerging technologies accessible. Akash expressed a vision of building a digital society where connectivity and technology work seamlessly together, asserting that India is now ready to take its technological advancements global.
