Shanaya Kapoor Shines in Dual Roles: ‘Student of the Year: After Dark’ Trailer Drops for OTT Debut
JioHotstar has released the trailer for “Student of the Year: After Dark,” a gripping murder mystery that takes a darker twist on the familiar campus narrative. The series features Shanaya Kapoor in her OTT debut, where she portrays twin sisters in a story that revolves around the investigation of one sister’s mysterious death. As the plot unfolds, the competitive atmosphere of the Student of the Year contest becomes a backdrop for Aditi’s quest for the truth.
Shanaya Kapoor’s Dual Role
In “Student of the Year: After Dark,” Shanaya Kapoor takes on the challenging role of Aayesha Malik, a popular student who is found dead, and her twin sister Aditi, who is determined to uncover the truth behind her sister’s demise. Aditi enters St. Teresa’s and participates in the Student of the Year competition, where she encounters friends and rivals of Aayesha, all of whom become potential suspects in the investigation.
Shanaya expressed her excitement about playing twin sisters, stating, “Playing Ayesha and Aditi has been one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences for me as an actor. While the two sisters may look alike, they couldn’t be more different in their personalities and the choices they make.” She emphasized that Aayesha’s death sets the narrative in motion, while Aditi’s relentless search for the truth reveals a world filled with deception and hidden secrets.
The actress also shared her thoughts on the darker storyline, saying, “What appealed to me the most about Student of the Year: After Dark is how it takes a much-loved franchise into an unexpected and new territory, where the stakes go far beyond competition and winning a title.” This fresh perspective on a familiar setting made her involvement in the project particularly thrilling.
Director Reema Maya’s Vision
Director Reema Maya elaborated on her vision for the series, describing it as a narrative that explores the pressures of competition and the consequences of an overwhelming desire to succeed. “Student Of The Year – After Dark is grit, angst and heart. It is for the youth of now. A popular franchise reimagined for current times,” she remarked. Maya believes the trailer offers just a glimpse into the new world they have created, hinting at much more to come.
Maya further explained her motivation behind the story, stating, “I wanted to explore the relentless competition that our youth find themselves grappling with. What happens when the need to succeed becomes all-consuming – destroying friendships, and even oneself?” She described the characters as young, ambitious, and flawed, emphasizing that they are not above suspicion in this murder mystery intertwined with a competition.
Produced by Dharmatic Entertainment, “Student of the Year: After Dark” also features a talented cast, including Abhinav Singh, Divik Sharma, Manya Grover, Deeya Damani, Adi Malik, Sheeba Chaddha, and Vivek Gomber. The series is set to premiere exclusively on JioHotstar on November 13, 2026.
