Over 5.5 Lakh Register for UGC NET December 2026; Final Deadline October 28

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced that registrations for UGC NET December 2026 have surpassed 5.5 lakh candidates. This surge in applications reflects growing interest in the examination. The registration window closes tomorrow on October 28, 2026. All eligible candidates must complete their applications and fee payments before this deadline at ugcnet.nta.nic.in.

As of October 25, 2026, the NTA recorded a dramatic rise in registrations. Just three days earlier, on October 22, 2026, only 1.86 lakh candidates had applied. This sharp increase shows how many aspirants are preparing for the December 2026 session. Candidates who have not yet submitted their forms should act immediately to avoid missing the final deadline.

Current Registration Status for UGC NET December 2026

The NTA shared detailed registration metrics on their official social media platform. These figures provide a clear picture of the application progress. Out of 5,50,048 total registered candidates, 3,73,419 have fully completed their applications with fee payment. This means approximately 68% of applicants have finished the entire process.

However, a significant number of candidates remain in incomplete status. The data shows 1,36,993 candidates have pending documents and fees, with no photograph or signature uploaded. Additionally, 31,580 candidates have uploaded documents but have not yet paid the application fee. Together, these incomplete applications represent over 1.68 lakh candidates.

The NTA has issued a clear warning about incomplete submissions. Any forms lacking photograph or signature uploads will face automatic rejection after the deadline passes. Similarly, applications without fee clearance will not be processed. Candidates must ensure all requirements are met before October 28, 2026.

Important Dates for UGC NET and Joint CSIR NET December 2026

The examination schedule includes multiple important dates that candidates must remember. The application deadline for both UGC NET and Joint CSIR NET is October 28, 2026. This single date applies to both examinations, so candidates applying for either test must submit by this date.

The proposed exam dates differ between the two tests. UGC NET December 2026 will be held on December 14, 18, and 21, 2026. Joint CSIR NET December 2026 is scheduled for December 19, 22, and 27, 2026. Both examinations will be conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode.

Candidates can access the official websites for their respective examinations. UGC NET applications are submitted at ugcnet.nta.nic.in. Joint CSIR NET applications are submitted at csirnet.nta.nic.in. These are the only authentic portals for registration and payment.

How to Complete Your UGC NET December Application

The application process involves several straightforward steps. First, candidates must visit the official website at ugcnet.nta.nic.in. Those registering for the first time need to complete the One-Time Registration (OTR) profile before proceeding.

After registration, candidates log in using their application number and password. The next step involves selecting the target qualification stream. Candidates can choose from three options: JRF and Assistant Professor, Assistant Professor Only, or Ph.D. Admission Only. This selection determines the examination pattern and syllabus.

Photograph and signature uploads require strict compliance with NTA specifications. The photograph must be passport-sized and meet specific pixel and file size requirements. The signature must also follow the prescribed format. Non-compliance with these requirements will result in rejection of the application.

After uploading all documents, candidates must pay the application fee through the online portal. The payment gateway accepts various modes of payment for candidate convenience. Once payment is successful, candidates should print and save the final confirmation page. This confirmation page serves as proof of application submission and should be retained for future reference.

Candidates applying for UGC NET December 2026 must act quickly to meet the October 28 deadline. With over 5.5 lakh registrations already received, the examination is attracting significant participation. Ensure all documents are uploaded correctly and fees are paid before the final date to avoid automatic rejection of your application.
