Polish Youth Explore India Through Jamsaheb Memorial Exchange Program

The second edition of the Jamsaheb Memorial Youth Exchange Programme took place from October 7 to 14, 2026, welcoming a 19-member delegation from Poland to India’s vibrant states of Gujarat, Maharashtra, and the capital, New Delhi. This enriching experience included visits to historically significant sites, cultural engagements, and interactions with senior Indian leaders, fostering a deep understanding of India’s history, culture, and development.

Strengthening Ties Through Youth Diplomacy

Initiated by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi during his state visit to Poland in August 2024, this programme is part of the India-Poland Strategic Partnership’s Five-Year Action Plan for 2024–2028. It aims to facilitate an annual exchange of Polish youth, allowing them to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of India’s historical and cultural landscape.

Commemoration of Shared History

A significant highlight of the trip was the delegation’s visit to the Balachadi Polish Children’s Camp Memorial in Jamnagar, Gujarat. This memorial honors the humanitarian efforts of Maharaja Jam Saheb Digvijaysinhji Ranjitsinhji Jadeja, who provided refuge, education, and medical care to Polish children during the turmoil of World War II. The Maharaja is affectionately remembered in Poland as the ‘Dobry Maharaja’ or the ‘Good Maharaja’ for his compassion. This visit offered the Polish youth profound insights into this pivotal chapter of shared history and the enduring diplomatic ties between India and Poland.

Exploring More Memorials

Following their time in Jamnagar, the delegation traveled to the Valivade Polish Refugee Camp Memorial in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. This site commemorates the aid provided to thousands of Polish refugees during and after the Second World War, further showcasing India’s historic role in supporting the Polish populace in times of crisis.

Engaging with Indian Leadership

In New Delhi, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, hosted the Polish delegation for a dinner, where participants exchanged ideas and perspectives. This interaction was vital in promoting mutual understanding and reaffirming the significance of people-to-people connections in strengthening India-Poland relations.

Memorable Experiences and Future Aspirations

The visiting delegates expressed their heartfelt appreciation for the opportunity to explore India’s diverse cultural heritage over their seven-day stay. Notable experiences included visits to Dandi Kutir in Gandhinagar and Kirti Mandir in Porbandar, Mahatma Gandhi’s birthplace. The warm hospitality they received enriched their understanding of India, reinforcing their bond with the country.

The delegation’s interactions included a meeting with India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, focusing on enhancing India-Poland relations and highlighting the role of youth exchanges in fostering sustainable partnerships.

This successful edition of the Jamsaheb Memorial Youth Exchange Programme emphasizes the ongoing importance of youth diplomacy in nurturing the friendship between India and Poland, continuing the legacy of Maharaja Jam Saheb and solidifying the historical ties between the two nations.
