Strengthening Cooperatives: National Training Framework Launched
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Sahkar se Samriddhi” is taking significant strides, as the government embarks on initiatives to enhance the cooperative sector. Under the guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, comprehensive efforts are underway to modernize and professionalize cooperatives while bolstering institutional capabilities throughout this ecosystem.
A recent milestone in these efforts was marked by the National-Level Agenda-Setting Consultation on the National Cooperative Training Framework (NCTF) 2026, held on September 24, 2026, at Atal Akshaya Urja Bhawan in New Delhi. Organized by “Tribhuvan” Sahkari University in partnership with the Ministry of Cooperation, the event aimed to lay the groundwork for a coordinated approach to cooperative training in India.
The consultation was inaugurated by Krishan Pal Gurjar, Minister of State for Cooperation, and attended by high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Cooperation and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. Participants included representatives from various States and Union Territories, key cooperative federations, State Cooperative Unions, specialized training institutions, and other organizations focused on skills development and capacity building in the cooperative landscape.
In his address, Gurjar emphasized that the effectiveness of cooperative training should be evaluated by its quality and the results it produces, rather than merely the quantity of training sessions conducted. He called for training initiatives that foster stronger institutional capabilities, refine professional competencies, and yield measurable benefits for cooperatives and their members.
Prof. (Dr.) S. P. Singh, Vice-Chancellor of “Tribhuvan” Sahkari University, also stressed the critical role of the NCTF in realizing the vision of “Sahkar se Samriddhi.” He advocated for an integrated and adaptable training framework that enhances the synergies between institutions engaged in cooperative education, ensuring higher standards of quality, reach, and responsiveness to the diverse needs of various regions.
This Agenda-Setting Consultation marks the first of two national-level gatherings planned as part of the NCTF process. Following this, five regional consultations are slated to occur across the North, South, East, West, and North-East regions of India, aiming to engage a wider array of stakeholders in shaping the future of cooperative training.
