New Digital Platform Streamlines Study Abroad Process for Indian Students
In a significant advancement for Indian students aiming to pursue education in Australia, the National e-Governance Division (NeGD) has teamed up with the Association of Australian Education Representatives in India (AAERI) to introduce ‘AAERI Verify’. This innovative digital platform was launched at the AAERI Annual Convention in New Delhi on August 7, 2026, and aims to simplify the document verification process necessary for university admissions.
By integrating with DigiLocker, AAERI Verify allows for secure, paperless, and consent-based verification of students’ academic, identity, and financial documents. This system is designed specifically to facilitate student credential checks for higher education institutions in Australia, enabling students to share verified digital documents prepared by trusted sources.
Streamlined Verification Process
The AAERI Verify platform replaces the traditional, slow manual verification system with a more efficient, secure process divided into two key stages:
- Stage 1: Student Check – This stage occurs seamlessly before students initiate their university applications.
- Stage 2: Sponsor Check – This stage takes place immediately after a student receives an admission offer, focusing on verifying financial authenticity.
With the student’s consent, DigiLocker will enable Australian universities to access digitally signed records directly from the original issuing authorities. This modern approach minimizes the risk of fraudulent documents, upholds data privacy, and significantly reduces application processing times.
Impact and Infrastructure
Shri JL Gupta, the Director of NeGD, emphasized the impact of this collaboration, stating, “This partnership illustrates how India’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) is addressing global challenges. By merging DigiLocker with AAERI Verify, we are creating a secure and trusted framework that simplifies international admission for students.”
Gupta provided insights into NeGD’s crucial role in nurturing India’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), which has been pivotal since its establishment under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in 2009. This organization supports project management, policy formation, and technology assessments throughout India.
DigiLocker itself stands as a flagship initiative under the DPI, offering citizens a secure way to store, share, and verify authentic digital documents issued by authorized bodies. With over 72 crore registered users, DigiLocker promotes efficient issuance, storage, and verification of digitally signed documents, playing a vital role in expanding India’s digital success onto the global education stage.
