Yash Raj Films Teams Up with Google for AI Filmmaking Workshop in India on August 4
Yash Raj Films (YRF) is set to collaborate with Google for an innovative AI filmmaking workshop aimed at India’s creative community. Scheduled for August 4th at YRF Studios, this event promises to delve into the transformative role of artificial intelligence in cinema. Participants will receive hands-on training with Flow, Google’s AI creative studio, equipping them with the skills to seamlessly integrate AI tools into their production workflows while maintaining their artistic vision.
Exploring AI in Filmmaking
The workshop will provide filmmakers and production professionals with practical insights into using AI as a storytelling companion. This initiative marks one of the first instances where Google’s Flow team engages directly with a major international studio’s creative leadership. The focus will be on ensuring that filmmakers retain full creative control over their craft, even as they explore new technological avenues.
Akshaye Widhani, CEO of Yash Raj Films, emphasized the importance of this dialogue, stating, “Every generation of filmmakers inherits new tools, and every generation has to decide whether the tool serves the story or starts dictating it. We’re choosing to have that conversation early and on our terms, in the room with the people building this technology. This session is about giving our filmmakers and creative teams the judgment to use AI deliberately, so that craft stays firmly in human hands, and the camera, the actor, and the story remain where they’ve always belonged – at the centre.”
A Platform for Collaboration
Dr. Arathi Sethumadhavan, Director of User Experience Research, Technology & Society at Google, expressed enthusiasm about the workshop’s potential impact. “We are already seeing incredible momentum with Google Flow in India. Through this workshop, we’re excited to bring our AI creative studio to even more creators across the country – and see how these legendary storytellers use the technology to challenge boundaries of artistic expression,” she said.
In addition to the masterclass, the workshop aims to foster ongoing dialogue between Google and India’s leading storytellers. Participants will have opportunities to network with Google’s core AI engineering and product teams. There will also be optional deep-dive modules for filmmakers eager to apply Flow to their active workflows. The ultimate goal is to explore how these advanced tools can unlock new narrative forms and elevate Indian cinema on a global scale..
