Kisan Sarathi: A Game-Changer for Indian Farmers
Kisan Sarathi, India’s leading digital agro-advisory platform, is changing the farming landscape by providing farmers with timely and authentic information. Launched in July 2021, this innovative initiative combines technology and agriculture, serving as a comprehensive resource for farmers to access advisories, scheme details, weather updates, and expert consultations, all in their local languages.
This initiative is a collaboration between the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology and the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, implemented by the Indian Agricultural Statistics Research Institute and the Digital India Corporation. The platform utilizes the Interactive Information Dissemination System (IIDS), which facilitates two-way communication between farmers and agricultural experts.
Connecting Farmers with Resources
With over 730 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), 100 ICAR institutes, and 65 agricultural universities integrated into its system, Kisan Sarathi creates a strong national network that enhances agricultural advisory services. Previously, farmers would navigate various platforms for essential information, but Kisan Sarathi simplifies this process by consolidating key digital services, including the Kisan Call Centre and the Common Service Centre, into a single easily accessible interface.
Understanding the diverse challenges faced by farmers in terms of smartphone access and digital literacy, Kisan Sarathi ensures inclusivity by offering multiple channels of access including a mobile app, a web portal, WhatsApp, and even voice call services through Kisan Call Centres and Common Service Centres.
Empowering Farmers with Real-Time Information
Kisan Sarathi connects farmers directly with experts, enabling them to receive real-time, region-specific advisories about weather changes, market prices, and relevant government schemes. Currently, the platform features over 610 government schemes, encompassing both State and Central initiatives, which are tailored to the unique needs of each farmer. This accessibility helps farmers make informed decisions regarding their crops and livelihoods.
The platform allows farmers to raise queries to experts, access training sessions, and receive personalized advisories based on their specific circumstances. They can also monitor mandi prices and district-wise market rates, ensuring they stay up to date with the agricultural market.
Revolutionizing Agricultural Extension
As of June 25, 2026, Kisan Sarathi has expanded its reach across 37 States and Union Territories, spanning 768 districts and servicing 6.63 lakh villages. The platform boasts an impressive 2.95 crore registered farmers, out of which 56.16 lakh are women beneficiaries. Kisan Sarathi has efficiently handled over 19 lakh queries and released 21,900 advisories covering 351 commodities throughout the nation.
Kisan Sarathi not only aids farmers but also benefits other agricultural stakeholders. Researchers, agricultural experts, and policymakers benefit from the improved dissemination of information, stronger outreach, and insights that support evidence-based policy planning. This interconnected approach ensures a robust agricultural ecosystem where knowledge flows freely, enhancing productivity and resilience in India’s farming sector.
Ultimately, Kisan Sarathi represents a pivotal move towards the digital transformation of India’s agriculture sector, fostering collaboration among farmers, research institutions, and policymakers while promoting an empowered and informed agricultural community.
