Scary Movie Release Delayed Due to Box Office Competition

The first Friday of June is set to be a busy day at the box office, with several films making their debut in cinemas. Among the anticipated releases are “Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai,” “Bandar,” and the Ram Charan-starrer “Peddi.” Additionally, two Hollywood films, “He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe” and “Scary Movie,” were also scheduled for release. However, Bollywood Hungama has learned that “Scary Movie” will not be hitting theaters this Friday, June 5.

Delay of “Scary Movie”

An exhibitor shared insights with Bollywood Hungama, stating, “We don’t know what the reason is for the delay. It may be due to too many films this week. Last week’s ‘Obsession’ is also going strong and it’ll take up some shows. Or it could be due to censorship issues.” The source added that it remains uncertain whether “Scary Movie” will arrive next Friday, June 12.

Screen-Sharing Issues for “Peddi” and “Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai”

As expected, screen-sharing conflicts have arisen between “Peddi,” which stars Janhvi Kapoor, and “Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai.” “Peddi” is set to release in cinemas on June 4. A trade source commented, “The non-national multiplexes have thrown open the bookings of ‘Peddi.’ The issue has emerged in the single screens as well as in the national chains, which is a rare occurrence.”

The source elaborated, “’Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’ is being released by PVR Inox Pictures in certain territories, while the same entity is also distributing ‘Peddi’ in the North. Thankfully, there’s no overlap happening in any territory. Yet, it is becoming a challenge to allot shows in a justified manner in PVR, Inox and Cinepolis.” The situation is expected to be resolved soon in national multiplexes, although it may take longer to reach an agreement for single screens.

Advance Bookings and Other Releases

Most single-screen cinemas in Mumbai, including Eros IMAX, Regal, New Excelsior, Roxy, and PVR Le Reve, have yet to open advance bookings from June 4 onwards. Some cinemas plan to screen the popular Marathi film “Deool Band 2” tomorrow but have not finalized their schedules for June 5.

On the Hollywood front, “He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe” has not begun bookings in any theater in India as of 10:00 am on June 3, just under 48 hours before its release. A source revealed, “Sony Pictures is in talks with cinemas and is trying its best to ensure that bookings open in a few hours.” The source also mentioned, “Yeh toh bas shuruaat hai. Next week will also see multiple releases. Hence, it’s going to be a tough battle ahead for exhibitors and distributors.”
