PM Modi to Launch Two New Delhi Metro Corridors: Essential Routes and Benefits for Commuters

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is poised to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for significant infrastructure projects in Delhi this Sunday, with a total investment of approximately Rs 33,500 crore. Among the highlights are two new corridors of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, valued at over Rs 18,300 crore, designed to enhance public transport across the capital. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized that the metro expansion will streamline daily commuting, alleviate traffic congestion, and address pollution issues in the city. The projects are also expected to improve connectivity for residents of the National Capital Region, particularly benefiting commuters from Noida and Faridabad by providing better access to Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Majlis Park–Maujpur Babarpur Corridor (Pink Line)

One of the key projects being inaugurated is the Majlis Park to Maujpur-Babarpur stretch of the Pink Line. This new segment spans approximately 12.3 kilometers and features eight elevated stations. With this addition, the Pink Line will extend to around 71.56 kilometers, establishing Delhi as home to the country’s first fully operational Ring Metro. The stations along this corridor include Majlis Park, Burari, Jharoda Majra, Jagatpur-Wazirabad, Soorghat, Nanaksar-Sonia Vihar, Khajuri Khas, Bhajanpura, Yamuna Vihar, and Maujpur-Babarpur. The project also encompasses the construction of a new bridge over the Yamuna River and a double-decker viaduct that will support both a metro track and a road flyover, further enhancing the infrastructure in the area.

Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park Corridor (Magenta Line)

The second corridor being inaugurated is the Deepali Chowk to Majlis Park stretch of the Magenta Line, which measures about 9.9 kilometers in length. This new link is set to improve connectivity for neighborhoods such as Madhuban Chowk, Haiderpur Badli Mor, Bhalaswa, and Majlis Park, thereby strengthening the overall transport network in the northern parts of Delhi. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta highlighted the engineering significance of this corridor, noting that a portion of it reaches a height of approximately 28.36 meters, making it one of the highest elevated sections in the Delhi Metro network. This advancement is expected to facilitate smoother travel for residents and contribute to the overall efficiency of the metro system.

New Metro Corridors Under Phase V-A

In addition to the inauguration of the two corridors, Prime Minister Modi will lay the foundation stone for three new routes under Phase V-A of the Delhi Metro, which will cover a combined length of around 16.10 kilometers. The proposed corridors include the Central Vista Corridor connecting R.K. Ashram Marg to Indraprastha, an extension of the Golden Line from Aerocity to Indira Gandhi Airport Terminal 1, and another extension from Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj. Officials have stated that these new routes will significantly enhance connectivity to key locations throughout the capital, facilitating travel for commuters moving between Noida, South Delhi, and the airport.

GPRA Redevelopment Projects

Before the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Modi will visit the GPRA Type-5 quarters at Sarojini Nagar, where he will hand over keys to female allottees. He will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for projects worth Rs 15,200 crore under the General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) Redevelopment Plan. These projects are being implemented in Sarojini Nagar, Netaji Nagar, Kasturba Nagar, and Sriniwaspuri as part of a broader initiative to modernize government housing colonies and improve infrastructure for government employees and administrative offices. The redevelopment is being executed through a self-sustainable financial model, which involves developing and monetizing a limited portion of the project area for commercial and residential use to finance the overall redevelopment. Upon completion, the plan will provide over 9,350 modern flats for government employees and create approximately 48 lakh square feet of office space, aimed at enhancing administrative efficiency while generating monetization potential.
