Government Enhances Fund Management with PFMS Updates

The Public Financial Management System (PFMS) is set to revolutionize how the government handles fund management, e-payments, and direct benefit transfers (DBT). Recently, important updates to the PFMS have been announced, streamlining operations and enhancing transparency in financial transactions. This will significantly improve the way funds are released to beneficiaries and implementing agencies.

PFMS serves as a comprehensive platform integrating various standalone systems for better payment and accounting practices. Notable features include the Single Nodal Agency (SNA), Treasury Single Account (TSA), and Central Nodal Agency (CNA), which collectively facilitate efficient cash management. One of its notable modules, the SNA SPARSH, ensures timely fund distribution, allowing for real-time tracking and reporting across multiple schemes.

One of the key advancements in PFMS is the Just in Time release mechanism for DBT under centrally sponsored schemes. These enhancements minimize delays by ensuring that funds are directly credited to beneficiaries’ bank accounts via the Reserve Bank of India. The latest modifications to the system also include moving from bulk rejection of claims to allowing partial acceptance, making the process smoother and more user-friendly.

In addition to these operational improvements, PFMS is committed to extraordinary user experience by integrating a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system. This system introduces several conveniences for users, including the automatic generation of tickets for grievances, automated acknowledgements, and the ability to track grievance status. Users can also access frequently asked questions through the PFMS Helpdesk Portal.

PFMS is further enhancing user engagement through Open House sessions, which occur twice a week. These sessions allow CRM users to clarify their doubts and resolve issues effectively. Moreover, specific Open House discussions for DBT users are held daily from 12 noon to 1 p.m. via video conference, ensuring that all stakeholders have access to assistance.
