India’s Semiconductor Journey Gains Momentum with ASML Visit
In a significant move for India’s burgeoning semiconductor industry, Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, visited the headquarters of ASML in Veldhoven, Netherlands, today. During this visit, the Minister highlighted India’s progress in establishing a semiconductor industry and underscored the importance of lithography, a crucial and complex process involved in printing circuits on semiconductor wafers.
Minister Vaishnaw emphasized that equipment manufacturers worldwide are increasingly looking to set up operations in India. He attributed this trend to the country’s remarkable design capabilities, abundant talent pool, and the stable policies implemented under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “ASML enables practically every chip manufactured in the world. Our fab in Dholera will be using ASML equipment. So I have come here to visit and understand their technology,” stated Vaishnaw.
ASML’s Role in Global Semiconductor Manufacturing
ASML stands as the world’s leading provider of lithographic tools for the semiconductor industry. The Dutch multinational specializes in creating photolithography machines essential for producing integrated circuits, allowing major chipmakers to mass-produce intricate patterns on silicon. This technology is pivotal in the creation of smaller, faster, and more energy-efficient chips, making ASML an indispensable player in the global semiconductor landscape.
The Minister noted the prospect of ASML’s involvement in India as a milestone for domestic semiconductor manufacturing. He reiterated the growing interest from international equipment manufacturers, who are seeking to forge partnerships and establish bases in India, thereby solidifying the nation’s position in the semiconductor ecosystem.
ASML’s Commitment to India’s Semiconductor Future
Recently, a delegation from ASML participated in SEMICON India 2025, where they expressed a strong desire to collaborate with India on its semiconductor journey. Their involvement would not only enhance the capabilities of India’s semiconductor sector but also bolster the country’s ambition to become a global hub for chip manufacturing.
As India continues to expand its footprint in the semiconductor industry, the collaboration with ASML could serve as a catalyst for innovation and economic growth, benefiting both the nation and the global technology community.
