Divya Kala Mela Celebrates Inclusivity and Empowerment for All

In a powerful address at the Delhi edition of Divya Kala Mela 2025, Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta emphasized the importance of inclusivity in society, stating, “Our Divyang brothers and sisters are not separate from us—they are our companions in society. No nation can truly progress by leaving anyone behind.” Her remarks set a compassionate tone that highlighted the belief that true national progress requires collective upliftment of all citizens.

Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government has initiated numerous programs such as the Accessible India Campaign, skill development initiatives, scholarships, and employment fairs to ensure that Divyangjan enjoy equal opportunities. The Chief Minister underscored that real change relies on courage, collaboration, and a commitment to the welfare of all. She noted with optimism that participants of the Delhi Mela would leave with enhanced self-belief and empowerment.

Empowerment Through Commitment

Dr. Virendra Kumar, the Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, inaugurated the event and reiterated the government’s commitment to empower every citizen. He articulated that a powerful nation is defined by its ability to grant dignity, equality, and opportunities to all individuals. Dr. Kumar remarked that the vision of “Saksham Bharat, Samarth Bharat” can only be realized when Divyangjan are included as equal partners in the nation’s progress. He expressed pride in Prime Minister Modi’s emotional connection with the Divyang community.

Since 2014, the Modi Government has assisted over 32 lakh Divyangjan with aids and devices, emphasizing its resolve to enhance the well-being of this demographic. The Union Minister described the Divya Kala Mela as a celebration of “capability within disability,” providing a national platform for artists and entrepreneurs from the Divyang community to showcase their talents.

A Catalyst for Change

Smt. V. Vidyavathi, Secretary of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), noted the Mela’s transformative impact, stating that it has become a nationwide catalyst for empowerment. The event has contributed to over Rs. 20 crore in sales, supported nearly 1,000 Divyang entrepreneurs, and facilitated job opportunities for 310 Persons with Disabilities through dedicated job fairs.

Describing the Divya Kala Mela as a “festival of self-confidence, capability and creativity,” Smt. Richa Shankar, DDG, welcomed the dignitaries and participants. She highlighted the influence of Divyang artists and entrepreneurs in creating a nationally recognized platform that promotes inclusivity.

Celebrating Creativity and Resilience

Since its inception in December 2022, Divya Kala Mela has played a crucial role in promoting entrepreneurship among Persons with Disabilities, ensuring their visibility and mainstream participation. Under the ADIP Scheme, assistive devices have been provided to over 32 lakh individuals, while loans totaling Rs. 18.05 crore have supported the development of micro-enterprises.

The ongoing Divya Kala Mela 2025 at Kartavya Path is a vibrant display of the resilience, artistry, and entrepreneurial spirit of Divyangjan. Attendees enjoy exhibitions of handicrafts and creative products while witnessing inspiring performances by Divyang artists. The Mela also reinforces the call to support local entrepreneurship within the Divyang community. With the joint effort of the government, community organizations, and citizens, Divya Kala Mela is a significant stride towards building an inclusive India that recognizes and empowers every Divyang individual.
