Celebrating India’s Linguistic Diversity at Bhartiya Bhasha Utsav 2025
The Ministry of Education held the Bhartiya Bhasha Utsav 2025 today at the National Bal Bhawan in New Delhi, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Mahakavi Subramania Bharati. This vibrant celebration showcased India’s rich linguistic diversity, themed **“Many Languages, One Emotion.”** The event also saw the active involvement of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA), which highlighted the depth and cultural significance of India’s tribal languages.
Showcasing Tribal Heritage
MoTA set up a dedicated stall featuring publications in tribal languages from the Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs) of **Jharkhand, Odisha, and Gujarat**. This exhibition included a variety of materials such as dictionaries, primers, storybooks, and research documents. Each piece was curated to represent the unique linguistic identities and oral traditions of the tribal communities across these states.
Innovative Language Technology
A key attraction at the MoTA stall was the live demonstration of the **Adi Vaani app**, India’s first AI-powered translator for tribal languages. Developed by a team from IIT Delhi, this initiative by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs aims to preserve and promote India’s tribal languages. Adi Vaani facilitates real-time translation between Hindi, English, and various tribal languages, incorporates interactive learning tools for students, and digitally archives indigenous knowledge and cultural heritage. The app currently supports languages including Santali, Kui, Bhili, Mundari, Gondi, and Garo, with plans for future expansion based on community feedback.
Cultural Performances and Unity
The event also featured lively cultural performances from schools across the nation. Students from **EMRS Kalsi (Uttarakhand)** showcased their talent through colourful dance routines and thought-provoking nukkad nataks, reflecting the cultural richness and social awareness among tribal youth. In a moving display of harmony, students united to sing **“Vande Mataram” in 22 different Indian languages**, symbolizing the linguistic diversity that forges a strong bond among the country’s people.

The Bhartiya Bhasha Utsav 2025 was a comprehensive gathering of institutions, educators, researchers, and students. It aimed to reaffirm India’s dedication to celebrating and strengthening its multilingual heritage. The active participation of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs highlighted the essential role of tribal languages as an integral part of India’s cultural and linguistic tapestry, offering a platform to promote understanding and appreciation of India’s diverse languages.
