Empowering Youth Through Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament Initiative

The Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament marks an innovative step forward, evolving from the Traditional Youth Parliament to foster a generation of proactive, solution-focused, and informed youth leaders. This transformative initiative aims to engage young minds in the political process and enhance their understanding of governance.

Conducted across three levels, the Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament included rounds at the district level, state level, and culminated in a national round. District competitions took place in various district nodes, while the state-level programs were hosted at 17 state assemblies and 18 other government venues, underscoring a historic moment that bridges the gap between youth and governance. The sessions received distinguished oversight from State Speakers, adding gravitas to the discussions among youth participants.

In a notable departure from previous iterations of the Youth Parliament, this year’s national round featured not only state champions, but also the top three candidates from each state and union territory, bringing together a total of 105 youth for discussions on crucial topics. This year’s theme focused on the critical issue of ‘One Nation, One Election,’ allowing participants to engage actively during the Question Hour and in master classes led by policy experts.

Through their participation, the youth gained insights into the functioning of Parliament and the overarching objectives of the Viksit Bharat 2047 mission. With a remarkable turnout of 29,145 youth at the district level, 2,830 at the state level, and 105 at the national level, the program has significantly engaged young people from diverse backgrounds in public life. This aligns with the national vision of empowering youth from various non-political backgrounds to play a pivotal role in democratic processes and the developmental narrative of the country.

The participants represented a tapestry of linguistic, social, and geographical diversity, showcasing a wide range of perspectives and ideas. The Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament provided a formal platform for these young individuals to deliberate on vital national issues, interact with policymakers, and contribute to India’s ongoing developmental journey.

This significant initiative was highlighted by the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, during a written response in the Rajya Sabha, emphasizing the government’s commitment to fostering youth involvement in governance and decision-making.
