Major Developments Announced in ESI Corporation Meeting

In a significant meeting today, Union Minister for Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, presided over the 197th Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) Corporation gathering in New Delhi. The meeting also saw the presence of Smt. Shobha Karandlaje, Union Minister of State for Labour & Employment and Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises. The discussions led to the approval of multiple initiatives aimed at enhancing the operational scope of ESIC, improving infrastructure, and upgrading service delivery.

Financial Approvals and Planning

During the meeting, the Corporation adopted its Annual Accounts for 2024-25, in conjunction with the report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) and the Corporation’s Annual Report. Essential financial forecasts were also approved, including the Revised Estimate for 2025-26 and the Budget Estimates for 2026-27. These documents outline planned expenditure, fund allocation, and performance targets, marking a comprehensive review of the financial landscape necessary for the corporation’s objectives.

Infrastructure Expansion Efforts

One of the pivotal decisions was the green light given for acquiring land to set up new facilities across various states. This includes several initiatives such as acquiring land for a 100-bedded ESIC Hospital at Shillong, Meghalaya, and planning for hospitals in locations like Neemrana (Rajasthan), Nagercoil (Tamil Nadu), and Hisar (Haryana). The aim is to bolster healthcare access and capabilities through a well-distributed network of facilities nationwide.

Policy Enhancements and Coverage Updates

Furthermore, ESIC introduced a policy for empanelment, allowing public institutions to provide cashless treatment to beneficiaries. Updates revealed the acquisition of land for other hospitals, including a 150-bedded facility at Malerkotla, Punjab, and a 100-bedded hospital at Halol, Gujarat. As of November 2025, 713 districts have been enrolled under the ESI Scheme, indicating substantial coverage across the country.

Beneficiary Statistics

Significant increases in beneficiary numbers were reported, with 3.24 crore employees registered and a total of 14.91 crore beneficiaries recorded as of March 31, 2025. The corporation also reaffirmed the continuation of NIL user charges for specific medical colleges until March 2027, ensuring that financial barriers do not impede access to essential healthcare services for insured persons.

Overall, the meeting reflects a dedicated effort by the ESI Corporation to innovate and expand its services, ultimately aiming to enhance the healthcare landscape for millions across India. Key officials, including members of parliament and state representatives, actively contributed to the proceedings, showcasing a collaborative approach to addressing India’s labor health needs.
