AI-Driven Positions Lead the Charge in New Technology Job Openings

Tech companies and AI platforms are ramping up their hiring efforts, with a notable shift towards AI-centric roles dominating the job market. As the adoption of artificial intelligence accelerates, there is a growing demand for professionals skilled in data architecture, machine learning, and generative AI. A Generative AI course online can be a solid first step for professionals looking to break into these roles. India’s vast pool of technical talent and its ability to adapt to the evolving AI landscape make it a focal point for global firms seeking to enhance their AI capabilities.

Surge in AI Job Openings

The rise of AI-driven transformation is prompting companies to prioritize roles that focus on building and optimizing data pipelines, developing AI models, and implementing intelligent automation across various business functions. OpenAI is set to establish its first office in New Delhi later this year, actively hiring for positions such as AI deployment manager and solutions architect. Similarly, Anthropic, known for its coding assistant Claude, plans to open a new office in Bengaluru in early 2024, marking its second location in the Asia-Pacific region after Tokyo. This expansion is expected to significantly boost AI-related job opportunities in India.

Accenture is also increasing its hiring efforts, with over 16,000 open positions in India. Among these, there are 89 roles specifically focused on AI and data, 363 in cloud computing, and more than 800 in consulting. This trend highlights the growing importance of AI expertise in the tech industry and the need for skilled professionals to meet the demands of modern businesses.

Skills Required for the Future

Prashanth Chandrasekar, CEO of Stack Overflow, emphasizes that today’s product and engineering professionals must possess strong skills in machine learning, programming, and data analytics. These skills are essential for designing, developing, and maintaining AI-based systems. However, he notes that as enterprises increasingly automate entry-level tasks, it becomes more challenging for young to mid-career professionals to find opportunities for advancement.

Srinivas Narayanan, CTO of B2B applications at OpenAI, points out that the role of software engineers is evolving. They are now expected to take on decision-making responsibilities, akin to those of a CEO. Speaking at the IIT Madras Alumni Association’s Sangam 2025 conference, he stated that the focus is shifting from merely writing code to asking the right questions and defining the core aspects of a problem. With AI capable of handling much of the technical execution, the emphasis is now on strategic thinking and problem-solving.

India’s Competitive Edge in AI

Experts agree that India holds a compelling position in the global AI landscape, both in terms of talent and business potential. Dario Amodei, co-founder and CEO of Anthropic, highlighted India’s vast technical talent pool and the government’s commitment to ensuring that the benefits of AI reach all sectors of society. This combination of resources makes India an attractive destination for companies looking to expand their AI capabilities.

Viral Shah, co-founder and CEO of JuliaHub, reinforces the notion that professionals will not be replaced by AI but rather by those who effectively leverage AI tools. He cited the company’s AI-native simulation platform, Dyad, which significantly accelerates hardware design processes. Tasks that previously took engineers days can now be completed in mere hours. However, he cautioned that ensuring the correctness of AI-generated code remains a significant challenge that must be addressed.
