Vicky Kaushal’s ‘Chhaava’ Set to Premiere in Maharashtra’s Inaugural Screening

In a groundbreaking development for Maharashtra’s remote tribal regions, PictureTime has unveiled the state’s first inflatable cinema hall in Gadchiroli. This innovative venue made its debut with the premiere of the film Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal, marking a significant step in bringing cinematic experiences to areas previously lacking modern infrastructure. The initiative aims to provide affordable access to high-quality cinema for the district’s population of approximately one million residents.
Inflatable Cinema: A New Era for Gadchiroli
Gadchiroli, one of Maharashtra’s most underserved districts, is now home to a state-of-the-art inflatable cinema hall. This facility features advanced technology, including 5.1 Dolby sound and digital projection, all within a fully air-conditioned environment. The cinema hall is equipped with 120 push-back seats, offering a comfortable viewing experience. With over 90% of Gadchiroli’s population living in rural areas, this initiative is designed to make world-class cinema accessible to the local community at an affordable ticket price of just โน150.
The choice of *Chhaava* for the inaugural screening is significant. Directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan, the film tells the story of Maratha warrior Sambhaji Maharaj. By selecting this culturally relevant film, the organizers hope to ignite interest in cinema and encourage residents to return to the theater.
Launch Event and Community Engagement
The launch event, held on May 22, attracted several dignitaries, including Dr. Milindji Narote, MLA of Gadchiroli, and Avishyant Panda, the district collector. Their presence underscored the importance of this initiative for the local community. Mr. Surajit Roy, COO and President of PictureTime, also attended, highlighting the company’s commitment to enhancing cinema access in remote areas.
Following the premiere of *Chhaava*, the inflatable cinema will feature regular programming, starting with two films: *Ata Thambaycha Naay* in Marathi and *Kesari Veer*, starring Suniel Shetty, in Hindi. This diverse lineup aims to cater to the varied tastes of the local audience and foster a renewed interest in cinema-going.
Public-Private Partnership for Sustainable Operations
The inflatable cinema hall has been established through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with the Municipal Corporation of Gadchiroli. Under this arrangement, the municipal body will own the infrastructure, while PictureTime will oversee the programming and operational management. This collaborative approach is expected to ensure the sustainability of the cinema hall and its offerings.
Looking ahead, the programming will not only include mainstream Marathi and Hindi films but also feature independent films that often struggle to find theatrical distribution. This commitment to showcasing a variety of cinematic works reflects PictureTime’s broader mission to democratize cinema across India.
Expanding Cinema Access Across India
PictureTime has already made significant strides in expanding cinema access with similar inflatable theaters in various locations across India, including Ladakh, Kishtwar, and Uttarakhand. Each of these initiatives aims to bring the magic of cinema to remote areas, where traditional theaters are often absent. The launch of the inflatable cinema in Gadchiroli represents another milestone in this ongoing effort to transform the cinematic landscape in underserved regions of the country.
