Housefull 5 Teaser Sparks Controversy: Yo Yo Honey Weighs In

On May 9, the teaser for the highly anticipated film Housefull 5 was abruptly removed from YouTube due to a copyright claim from Mofusion Studios. This unexpected action has sparked a legal battle, as Yo Yo Honey Singh asserts that he holds exclusive rights to the song featured in the teaser, titled Laal Pari. Following this declaration, Sajid Nadiadwala, the producer of the film, has filed a defamation lawsuit against both Mofusion Studios and YouTube, seeking damages of Rs. 25 crores.

Legal Dispute Over Copyright Claims

The controversy began when Mofusion Studios claimed ownership of the song Laal Pari, which was composed by Yo Yo Honey Singh and included in the Housefull 5 teaser. According to sources, Singh has provided a written statement confirming that he is the sole rights holder of the song and has sold those rights exclusively to Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment. This declaration has prompted Nadiadwala to take legal action, as he believes the removal of the teaser was unjust and damaging to the reputation of his production house.

Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment is recognized as one of the leading production companies in Indian cinema. The management expressed frustration over YouTube’s decision to take down the teaser without consulting them, especially given their substantial subscriber base of over 1.6 million and their clean record regarding copyright issues. The production team feels that YouTube should have verified the claim before removing the video, which they argue has tarnished their image.

Demands for Reinstatement and Damages

On May 12, legal notices were served to both YouTube and Mofusion Studios. Nadiadwala’s legal team has demanded that YouTube promptly re-upload the teaser or face the consequences of a Rs. 25 crores lawsuit. The production house is adamant about protecting its rights and reputation, emphasizing the need for accountability from platforms like YouTube when handling copyright claims.

Housefull 5 is set to feature a star-studded cast, including Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, and Jacqueline Fernandez, among others. Directed by Tarun Mansukhani, known for his work on Dostana (2008), the film is scheduled for release on June 6, 2025, coinciding with Bakri Eid.

Anticipation for the Film

As the legal battle unfolds, excitement for Housefull 5 continues to grow. The film promises to deliver the humor and entertainment that the Housefull franchise is known for. With a talented ensemble cast and the involvement of popular music, fans are eager to see how this controversy will impact the film’s release and its promotional efforts. The outcome of the legal dispute may also set a precedent for how copyright claims are handled in the digital age, particularly in the film industry.
