Legal Turmoil Surrounds Film Jatadhara

The production of the upcoming film Jatadhara has ignited a fierce legal battle between Ess Kay Gee Entertainment (SKG) and Content Films Productions Pvt. Ltd. The dispute centers on conflicting claims regarding contractual obligations and intellectual property rights, with both parties exchanging serious allegations. As the situation escalates, the industry watches closely for developments that could impact the film’s future.

SKG’s Legal Notice and Allegations

The legal drama intensified when SKG’s counsel, Vineet Dhanda, issued a notice addressing allegations against producer Prernaa Arora. The notice clarifies that Arora was merely a witness to the agreement between SKG and Content Films Productions, not a direct participant. According to SKG, Content Films was required to invest Rs. 11 crores within 15 days to secure 50% of the intellectual property rights but only contributed Rs. 60 lakhs. This failure, SKG argues, forfeits Content Films’ claims to the project’s IP rights. The notice describes Content Films’ assertions as “laughable” and a significant breach of law. Furthermore, it criticizes the media for potentially defaming Arora, who is neither a director nor an owner of SKG. In response, SKG has filed a defamation suit against Content Films and its owners, Rajiv and Arvind Aggarwal, seeking damages of Rs. 50 crores in the Bombay High Court. The notice also urges media outlets to verify the authenticity of their reports before publication to avoid legal repercussions.

Content Films Productions’ Counterclaims

On March 12, 2025, Content Films Productions issued a notice asserting their claim to a 50% stake in the intellectual property rights of Jatadhara. This claim is based on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on December 23, 2024, with SKG. Content Films alleges that SKG breached the terms of this MoU and warns industry stakeholders against engaging with SKG regarding Jatadhara without their consent, threatening legal action for unauthorized dealings. The company maintains that their investment entitles them to the claimed rights, setting the stage for a contentious legal confrontation.

Director Venkat Kalyan’s Response

Venkat Kalyan, the director and writer of Jatadhara, has publicly rejected Content Films’ claims, labeling them as “false, baseless, and misleading.” Kalyan explained that the MoU stipulated a 50% ownership contingent upon a Rs. 10 crores investment, yet Content Films allegedly contributed only Rs. 60 lakhs towards the film’s total budget of Rs. 20 crores. He accused Content Films of failing to meet their financial obligations and mismanaging project accounts, which he claims led to professional fallout. Kalyan has announced plans to pursue legal action against Content Films for breach of contract, harassment, and defamation, further complicating the already intricate legal landscape surrounding the film.

Awaiting Legal Resolutions

As the legal battle unfolds, the film industry remains on high alert for further developments regarding Jatadhara. The conflicting narratives from SKG and Content Films Productions highlight the complexities of contractual agreements in the entertainment sector. With both parties preparing for legal action, the resolution of this dispute will be crucial in determining the rightful ownership and future of the film. Stakeholders and fans alike are eager to see how this situation will evolve in the coming weeks.
