6 BioCNG plants and more than 11,100 small biogas plants commissioned under National Bioenergy Programme

The Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy informed that tThe Ministry of New and Renewable Energies notified in November 2022 the National Bioenergy Program (PNB) for the period from 04.01.2021 to 03.31.2026. This programme, with a budget outlay of Rs. 1715 Crore, will be implemented in two stages. The first phase has a budget outlay of Rs. 858 crores. This program provides Central Financial Assistance (CFA) for the establishment of bioenergy plants.

As at 07.31.2023, 6 BioCNG plants and 11,143 small biogas plants came into operation, for which sanctions were issued pursuant to the NBP guidelines notified on 11.02.2022. Details in terms of status/UT of these plants are given below.

National Bioenergy Program, Moreoverpromotes the use of biomass such as excess agricultural residues, industrial residues of agricultural origin, industrial wood waste, forest residues, biomass obtained from energy plantations, etc. for energy production and would therefore not pose a risk of deforestation.
