Chava Flores (14 January 1920 – 5 August 1987) was a Mexican composer and singer of popular and folkloric music. In his songs, he often depicted the everyday lives of the people of Mexico City. In addition to performing with some of the biggest names in the industry, his passion for music has taken him all over the world. As a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, he has proven that his abilities are limitless.
Life and Career
Flores was born in Mexico City on 14 January 1920. Due to his father’s early death, he has to work at an early age to support the family. From childhood, Chava Flores worked as a tailor, warehouse manager, collector, door-to-door salesman, hardware store administrator, owner of a shirt and sausage store, and printer.
At a young age, he began playing the guitar. Based on traditional Latin American sounds, he developed a unique style that combines elements of jazz, blues, funk, folk, and rock. Combining these two elements creates an exciting musical experience that audiences cannot get enough of. He often uses soulful lyrics to convey stories about love and life experiences in his songs.
Through the magazine, Chava was able to meet some of Mexico’s most influential songwriters and composers, inspiring him to develop a vibrant musical style that he displayed throughout his long career as a composer. More than 200 songs were included in his repertoire, including songs such as “Sábado Distrito Federal”.
He died on 5 August 1987 in Mexico City at the age of 67.
