Workshop Promotes Legal Adoption and Child Safety in Delhi
The Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA), in partnership with the Department of Women and Child Development of Delhi and the Delhi State Adoption Resource Agency, hosted an Adoption Awareness Workshop at the Main Auditorium of the Delhi Secretariat. Titled “Legal Adoption. Safe Childhood. Secure Future. Say No to Illegal Adoption,” the event aimed to bolster understanding of legal adoption processes while highlighting the dangers of illegal adoption.
The workshop featured notable figures, including Smt. Bhavna Saxena, CEO of CARA, and Smt. Rashmi Singh, Secretary of the Department of Women and Child Development, alongside representatives from health and police departments. Approximately 200 participants engaged in discussions centered around child adoption and protection, aiming to enhance knowledge of legal frameworks and the ramifications of illegal practices.
Key Insights from the Workshop
During her address, Smt. Bhavna Saxena stressed the importance of increased awareness and proactive measures from everyone involved in child protection. She stated, “Every child deserves a safe childhood and a secure future. There can be no shortcuts in adoption. We must ensure that every stakeholder understands their role in preventing illegal adoption.” This sentiment was echoed by Smt. Rashmi Singh, who noted the vital involvement of various stakeholders—from health workers to police—in ensuring secure childhoods.
To further the awareness mission, a fictional film highlighting the legal adoption process was premiered at the workshop. The film aims to clearly convey the importance of lawful adoption and outline the risks of illegal alternative practices.
Thematic Sessions Addressing Challenges
The workshop included three thematic sessions that tackled pressing issues related to illegal adoption. The sessions discussed topics such as emerging trends, the involvement of healthcare and law enforcement in preventing illegal practices, and ways to strengthen child protection systems through collaborative efforts among different agencies.
A special segment featuring Shri Arun Sharma, a District Child Protection Officer, allowed attendees to gain insights from real-life experiences confronting illegal adoption, emphasizing the necessity of immediate action and support from child protection workers.
Engagement and Awareness Activities
The event concluded with an interactive quiz to test participants’ grasp of the key concepts shared during the workshop. This engaging format fostered reflection on the legal responsibilities and actions necessary for effective child protection and lawful adoption practices. Additionally, a performance by DMRC Salam Baalak Trust showcased pressing issues surrounding child rights and safety, reinforcing the community’s collective responsibility in these matters.
CARA’s campaign theme for National Adoption Awareness Month 2026 focuses on ensuring the legality and safety of the adoption process. Emphasizing the critical message of “Legal Adoption. Safe Childhood. Secure Future. Say No to Illegal Adoption!”, the workshop aimed to raise awareness about the illegal adoption’s violation of children’s rights. Coordinated efforts among governmental bodies, health professionals, and civil society is essential to uphold the rights and security of every child.
