27 September in Indian history is celebrated as the birth anniversary of the following personalities:
Radhanath Rai (27 September 1848 – 17 April 1908), a prominent poet of Oriya language and literature. They belonged to a Bengali clan that had settled in Odisha for generations. His poems created a new tradition in Odia poetry and influenced later poets up to about the middle of the twentieth century. Odia poetry was enriched by Radhanath Rai with the introduction of new forms, new themes, a new approach, and greater freedom than pre-requisites. He was the first person to pass matriculation in his district. He was Born on 27 September 1848 in Baleshwar.
Vithaldas Jhaverbhai Patel (27 September 1873 – 22 October 1933), a prominent national leader of India and elder brother of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Only after completing his barrister studies, he got involved in the task of getting freedom for the country. Vithaldas Jhaverbhai Patel was a great patriot, and the British rulers of India were also afraid of him. In 1905, he completed his barrister and started practicing law, but soon he got drawn into the Indian national movement. He launched a strong mass movement in India against the Rowlatt Act. He was also elected a member of the Central Assembly but resigned from the membership according to the policy of non-cooperation of the Congress. Later he joined the Swarajya Party and was elected the first non-official President of the Central Assembly. He rejected the Government Public Safety Bill by casting his vote and barred the police from entering the Central Assembly Hall during the session. In 1930, he resigned from the post of the President of the Central Assembly in protest against the arrest of the Congress leaders, and only after that, he himself was also placed under house arrest. He was Born on 27 September 1873 in Gujrat.
Yash Raj Chopra (27 September 1932 – 21 October 2012), an Indian film director and film producer who worked in Hindi cinema. The founding chairman of the film production and distribution company Yash Raj Films, Chopra was the recipient of several awards, including 6 National Film Awards and 8 Filmfare Awards. He is considered among the best Indian filmmakers. Chopra received his first directorial opportunity in 1959 with the social drama Dhool Ka Phool, produced by his elder brother B.R. Chopra and starring Mala Sinha, Rajendra Kumar, and Leela Chitnis. The film revolved around a Muslim bringing up an “illegitimate” Hindu child. The film was well-received by critics and became the fourth highest-grossing film of the year. For his contributions to film, the Government of India honoured him with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2001, and the Padma Bhushan in 2005. British Academy of Film and Television Arts BAFTA 2006 presented him with a lifetime membership, making him the first Indian to receive the honour. He was Born on 27 September 1932 in India.
Lakshmipathy Balaji is a former Indian cricketer. He is a right-arm fast-medium bowler. He announced his retirement from first-class cricket and List A cricket in November 2016. He coached the Chennai Super Kings team in the 2018 Indian Premier League. Balaji played for his home team Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League from 2008 to 2010, taking his first hat-trick in the IPL. Whereas after this he played for Kolkata Knight Riders from the year 2011 to 2013. He took 76 wickets in 73 matches in his entire IPL career. Balaji made it to the Indian cricket team in the year 2003 as a medium-fast bowler. He played for his state Tamil Nadu from 2001 to 2016 and played his first Test cricket match against New Zealand in Ahmedabad in 2003. He was Born on 27 September 1981 in Tamil Nadu.

27 September in Indian history is observed as the death anniversary of the following personalities:
Raja Ram Mohan Roy (22 May 1772 – 27 September 1833), is called ‘the father of modern Indian society. He was the founder of the Brahmo Samaj, the originator of the Indian linguistic press, the leader of the mass awakening and social reform movement, and the father of the Renaissance era in Bengal. Raja Rammohan Roy’s name is foremost in the field of religious and social development. Raja Ram Mohan Roy tried to modernize the then Indian society by removing bigotry, conservatism, and superstitions. Raja Rammohun Roy also fought hard for the independence of newspapers. He himself started and edited a Bengali magazine ‘Samvad-Kaumudi’. Tried to modernize the practice of Sati by removing the bigotry, conservatism, and superstitions of Indian society. Monotheistic Rammohun Roy had studied religions like Jainism, Islam, etc. He was able to study the important scriptures of the world in their original form. Because of this, he was successful in comparing all the important religions of the world. His conception of the world religion was not based on any complex principles but was based only on deep knowledge of different religions. He translated the Vedas and Upanishads into Bengali. He earned a lot of fame in Europe and America by writing on Vedanta in English. He continued to support his ideas throughout his life and for their propagation, he founded the Brahmo Samaj. He died on 27 September 1833.
Mahendra Kapoor (9 January 1934 – 27 September 2008), a famous playback singer of Hindi films. He sang particularly memorable songs in BR Chopra’s films Humraaz, Gumrah, Dhool Ka Phool, Waqt, Dhoond. Music composer Ravi composed music for most of these films. In 1968, he received the Best Playback Singer award for Upkar’s well-known song Mere Desh Ki Dharti Sona Ugle. Apart from this important honour, he received the Filmfare Award in 1963 for the song Chalo Ek Bar Phir Ajnabee Ban Jaye from Gumrah. Later in 1967, he also got the Filmfare Award for Humraj’s Neel Gagan Ke Tale. The third Filmfare award of his life was received in 1974 for Roti Kapda and Makaan Ke Nahin and Nahi. He was later awarded the Padma Shri and the Maharashtra Government’s Lata Mangeshkar Award. He died on 27 September 2008.
