231 Cadets Commissioned as Officers in Indian Air Force

A total of 231 Flight Cadets, comprised of 194 men and 37 women, proudly received their commissions as officers in the Indian Air Force (IAF) during a ceremony at the Air Force Academy (AFA) in Dundigal, Hyderabad on June 13, 2026. This event was particularly historic as it marked the commissioning of the first batch of women graduates from the National Defence Academy (NDA).

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh reviewed the Combined Graduation Parade of the 217 Course and bestowed the prestigious ‘President’s Commission’ to the graduating cadets, signifying the end of their rigorous pre-commissioning training for the Flying and Ground Duty branches of the IAF.

Recognition and Awards

On this momentous occasion, nine officers from the Indian Navy, three from the Indian Coast Guard, and two from the Socialist Republic of Vietnam were awarded their ‘Wings’. Additionally, three officers received ‘Brevets’ after completing their navigation training.

While addressing the cadets, Raksha Mantri emphasized the vital roles that the IAF has played in the nation’s history, citing its decisive actions during conflicts such as the 1947-48 Kashmir war and the 1971 war where the IAF significantly contributed to India’s military successes. He also recalled the notable Operation Sindoor in 2025, where the IAF showcased exceptional skill and bravery in targeting terrorist operations effectively.

Call to Action

Shri Rajnath Singh urged the newly commissioned officers to remain vigilant and adaptable in the face of evolving warfare technologies and strategies. He acknowledged the challenges posed by modern combat scenarios, where detection of adversaries may be obscured by sophisticated tools like radars and drones. He reminded the officers that their training has equipped them to navigate these complexities with prudence and confidence.

Encouraging innovation, he advised the cadets to remain dedicated to continuous learning, stressing that the wings they wear symbolize the trust of the Indian people. He highlighted the gravity of their forthcoming responsibilities, where swift decision-making will often be required, reflecting on the high standards of professionalism necessary to serve effectively.

Celebrating Inclusive Progress

He extended special congratulations to the women officers, noting that their presence in the IAF epitomizes the strength of gender diversity within the armed forces. He expressed confidence that this inclusivity would make the IAF more robust and balanced, further enhancing its capabilities.

Additionally, he recognized the contributions of the IAF in humanitarian and rescue missions, which reflect the essence of Indian values that transcend borders.

Parade Highlights

The ceremony featured a dynamic display of military precision, including a march past and a captivating flypast led by Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh. Various trainer aircraft showcased by the IAF added to the spectacle, culminating in an impressive aerobatics display by elite teams.

In honor of exceptional performance, several awards were presented, including the coveted ‘President’s Plaque’ and ‘Nawanagar Sword of Honour’, given to the top-performing graduates. The event ended with a heartwarming ceremony where the newly commissioned officers received their first salute from their juniors, marking the start of their dedicated service to the nation.
