Mahesh Chandra Nyayratna Bhattacharyya (22 February 1836 – 12 April 1906), an Indian Sanskrit scholar. He was the principal of the Sanskrit College between 1876 and 1895. He also worked with and friend of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, he played an important role in the Bengal Renaissance. He was one of the most eminent Bengalis of the nineteenth century. He was born on 22 February 1836 to a Kulin Brahmin family.
Maharaja Chamarajendra Wadiyar X ( 22 February 1863 – 28 December 1894), the 23rd Maharaja of the Mysore, between 1868 and 1894. He instituted the Representative Assembly of the Mysore Kingdom in 1881. He sponsored the famous journey of Swami Vivekananda to Chicago in 1893. He gave importance to women’s education and founded the Kannada Bashojjivini School. Chamarajendra Wadiyar X was born in the old palace in Mysore on 22 February 1863.
Indulal Kanaiyalal Yagnik (22 February 1892 – 17 July 1972), an Indian independence activist, writer and filmmaker. He was the leader of the All India Kisan Sabha and one who led the Mahagujarat Movement, which initiated the demand for separate statehood. He was elected to the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Lok Sabha. He was born at Jhagadia Pol in Nadiad, Kheda, Gujarat.

Death Anniversary
Today, 22 February, in Indian history is remembered as the death anniversary of the following personalities:
Kasturbai Mohandas Gandhi (11 April 1869 – 22 February 1944), an Indian political activist. She married Mohandas Gandhi in 1883. In association with her husband and son, she was involved in the Indian independence movement in British-ruled India. She was very influenced by her husband Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. In January 1944, Kasturba suffered two heart attacks after which she was confined to her bed. On 22 February 1944, she died at the Aga Khan Palace in Poona, aged 74.
Abul Kalam Azad (11 November 1888 – 22 February 1958), an Indian scholar, Islamic theologian, independence activist, and a senior leader of the Indian National Congress during the Indian independence movement. Following India’s independence, he became the First Minister of Education in the Indian government. Azad, committed to a united India until his last attempt was condemned by the advocates of Pakistan, especially the Muslim League. He was honoured with Bharat Ratna posthumously in 1992 by the government of India. He died on 22 February 1958.
Sukhbir (9 July 1925 – 22 February 2012), novelist, short-story writer, poet, and essayist. He has written for almost 50 years. In course of his writing career, he wrote seven novels, eleven short story collections, five poetry collections, essays, letters and book reviews. He died on 22 February 2012 due to cardiac arrest.
