Every year on July 15, World Youth Skills Day emphasizes the importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, decent work, and entrepreneurship.

This day aims to equip young people across the globe with essential skills for employment, work, and entrepreneurship. On this day, we honor, acknowledge, and celebrate the importance of equipping young people with skills for employment and entrepreneurship. World Youth Skills Day 2022 takes place amid concerted efforts to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, a challenge interconnected with climate change, conflict, remaining poverty, rising inequality, rapid technological change, and demographic transitions.

This Year the Day will be celebrated under the theme Skilling teachers, trainers, and youth for a transformative future, which takes place amid concerted efforts toward socio-economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

World Youth Skills Day: History

The United Nations General Assembly declared 15 July 2014 as World Youth Skills Day, to celebrate the strategic importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, decent work, and entrepreneurship.

Since then, World Youth Skills Day has provided a unique opportunity for dialogue between young people, TVET institutions, firms, employers’ and workers’ organizations, policymakers, and development partners.

Why is World Youth Skills Day important?

To celebrate the strategic importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, decent work, and entrepreneurship, the United Nations General Assembly declared 15 July as World Youth Skills Day in 2014. Since then, World Youth Skills Day events have provided a unique opportunity for dialogue between young people, TVET institutions, firms, employers’ and workers’ organizations, policymakers, and development partners. As the world moves towards a sustainable development model, skills are becoming increasingly important.
