13 Task Forces constituted by Ministry of Steel for decarbonisation of steel sector

The Ministry of Steel was set up 13 task forces engaging industry, academia, think tanks, S&T bodies, various ministries and other stakeholders to discussdeliberate and advise to the decarbonisation of the steel sector. The Task Force on Skills Development is set up to carry out discussions on competenciesup-skilling and redevelopment of the workforce towards green steel production, thus ensuring the just transition of the steel sector.

Promote high quality steel through scrap/recycled steel

The Government of India has also taken various measures to promote high quality steel Through scrap/recycled steel and ensure its adherence by steel producers:

(1) In order to ensure the quality product to the general public, regardless of the input material, the Ministry of Steel notified 145 Indian standards of steel and steel products under the purview of Quality Control Order (QCO).โ€‹

(2) Scrap Steel Recycling Policy, 2019the availability of domestically produced scrap increases reduce coal consumption in steel production.

โ€‹(3) Motor vehicle standards (registration and functions of the vehicle dismantling facility).of 23 September 2021, will increase the availability of scrap in the steel sector.

(4) The steel industry has adopted the Best Available Technologies (BAT) available globally, in modernization & expansions projects.
