Martha Graham was born on 11 May 1894, in Allegheny (now Pittsburgh), Pennsylvania, United States. She developed a passion for dance at a young age and began her formal dance training in Los Angeles. Graham went on to study at the Denishawn School of Dancing and Related Arts in New York, where she honed her skills and explored new forms of movement.

Martha Graham is considered one of the pioneers of modern dance. She challenged the conventions of traditional ballet and developed her own distinct style of dance, characterized by its emotional intensity and expressive movement. Graham founded the Martha Graham Dance Company in 1926, which became a renowned and influential dance troupe.

Throughout her career, Graham choreographed numerous groundbreaking works, such as “Appalachian Spring,” “Lamentation,” and “Night Journey.” Her innovative approach to dance and her exploration of themes such as mythology, human emotions, and social issues earned her critical acclaim and established her as a leading figure in the dance world.

Martha Graham passed away on 1 April 1991, in New York City, United States, at the age of 96. Despite her physical decline in her later years, her artistic legacy continued to thrive through her company and the dancers she influenced.
