West Asia Impact Eases, Leading to Reduced Prices for Commercial LPG and Jet Fuel
State-run oil marketing companies have reduced the price of commercial LPG cylinders by Rs 183.5 and aviation turbine fuel (ATF) by Rs 5 per litre. This adjustment follows a decline in global crude prices, which eased after the recent West Asia conflict and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. The price cuts reflect a stabilization in energy supplies to India.
Price Adjustments for Fuels
The price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi is now Rs 2,930. The 5-kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinder, often used by migrant workers and street vendors, has decreased by Rs 13 to Rs 808.5. ATF for domestic airlines is now priced at approximately Rs 110 per litre. Despite these reductions, the price of the 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder remains unchanged at Rs 942 in the capital, while petrol and diesel prices also hold steady at Rs 102.12 and Rs 95.2 per litre, respectively.
The latest price cuts come after a series of increases that saw commercial LPG prices rise by Rs 1,373 per cylinder due to the conflict. This is the first reduction since tensions in West Asia began to de-escalate. Prices for commercial LPG vary across states, with the cylinder costing Rs 2,884 in Mumbai, Rs 3,072 in Kolkata, and Rs 3,099.5 in Chennai, influenced by local value-added tax rates.
Supply Normalization
Energy supplies to India have begun to normalize, with refiners securing sufficient crude oil and LPG cargoes. Officials have indicated that imports from West Asia are nearing pre-conflict levels. During the disruptions, the government maintained petrol and diesel prices for nearly 75 days despite rising international oil prices, before implementing a cumulative increase of Rs 7.5 per litre.
In response to improving supply conditions, the government lifted restrictions on commercial LPG supplies and allowed the sale of petrol and diesel to commercial buyers from retail outlets without limitations. The latest price cuts represent the first significant easing of transport and commercial fuel prices since the West Asia conflict impacted global energy markets.
