Training Initiative Boosts Tourism Employment and Skills Across India

The Ministry of Tourism has launched a significant initiative under the “Capacity Building for Service Providers” (CBSP) scheme that provides training programs aimed at enhancing skills for tourism stakeholders nationwide. These training sessions cater to individuals from urban, rural, and tribal areas, equipping them with essential skills for various roles in the tourism and hospitality sector.

Since its inception in 2009-10 and continuing through to October 31, 2025, the CBSP program has successfully trained a remarkable 643,000 individuals, resulting in over 84,000 participants securing placements within the industry. This initiative not only fosters employment but also empowers trainees to pursue advanced education opportunities, such as diploma and degree courses in tourism and hospitality.

According to Union Minister for Tourism and Culture, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, the government’s trained programs are widely advertised through multiple channels, ensuring that a diverse group of candidates—including women and youth from tribal backgrounds—have access to these opportunities. The outreach strategy is designed to maximize engagement and inclusiveness across different demographics.

State-Wise Training Success

Recent data highlights the success of the CBSP scheme across various states, particularly noting the participation of youth from the North-Eastern region. The program has tailored a significant number of its training efforts to meet the specific needs and strengths of different regions, with some states showing impressive training figures.

For instance, Madhya Pradesh stands out with a total of 28,212 individuals trained, showcasing the effectiveness of local engagement strategies. Similarly, states like Uttar Pradesh and Haryana have seen substantial participation, preparing thousands for careers in the tourism sector. Other states, including Himachal Pradesh and Kerala, also contribute notable numbers to the overall tally, indicating a broad interest in tourism-related careers.

The complete breakdown of trained professionals can be found below, reflecting the consistent dedication of the Ministry of Tourism to enhance employment opportunities and skillsets throughout the country.

Training Outcomes

The training programs have proven to be a vital instrument in bridging the gap between education and employment in the tourism sector. By promoting self-employment and higher education pathways for participants, the initiative supports not only individual development but also the growth of the tourism industry as a whole. With a focus on equipping future professionals with necessary skills, the Ministry of Tourism ensures that India remains a competitive destination in the global tourism market.

Through the CBSP scheme, the Indian government is making significant strides in fostering a skilled workforce ready to meet the evolving demands of the tourism sector. This concerted effort aims to empower youth and transform the tourism landscape across the nation.
