Textiles Summit 2026: Paving the Way for a Flourishing Industry

The Ministry of Textiles has wrapped up the successful two-day Textiles Summit 2026, which took place from June 23 to 24. This pivotal event gathered representatives from state governments, industry leaders, and academic institutions to engage in vital discussions aimed at the growth and future direction of the textiles sector.

In his closing remarks, Union Minister of Textiles Shri Giriraj Singh emphasized the need for a proactive approach in executing district and state plans. He highlighted the importance of aligning product-market mix, enhancing value addition, adhering to sustainability and environmental standards, and capitalizing on Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) while focusing on niche products for the sector’s development.

During the summit, Secretary of the Ministry of Textiles, Smt. Neelam Shami Rao, remarked that the deliberations signify a critical shift from dialogue to decisive action. She stressed the urgency of translating recommendations from states, districts, and industry stakeholders into a detailed National Textile Export Roadmap. This plan aims to prioritize high-value segments, foster innovation, and reinforce sustainability while promoting stronger institutional collaboration to bolster exports and elevate India’s standing in global textile markets.

Special Session Insights

The summit featured a crucial session with Commerce Secretary, Shri Rajesh Agrawal, who urged the textiles industry to swiftly leverage the advantages of recently concluded FTAs. He pointed out that addressing information gaps at the district level is essential for helping exporters maximize the benefits of these agreements. The Secretary acknowledged the significant efforts made by the Government of India in conducting 500 workshops aimed at export promotion, encouraging states and union territories to engage actively in revitalizing District Export Hubs (DEH).

Strategic Recommendations Unveiled

On the second day, the summit resumed with group presentations from various states and union territories, summarizing the discussions and outcomes from Day 1. These presentations offered substantial recommendations for boosting textile exports, aligning with the ambitious goal of achieving USD 100 billion in textile exports by 2030.

The final sessions focused on two major themes. The first, ‘Quality, Sustainability Certifications and Sourcing Decisions,’ highlighted the need to adapt global brand requirements into actionable strategies at the state level. Discussions included promoting digital product passports for traceability and exploring closed-loop recycling to enhance sustainability in the textiles industry. The importance of collaboration between municipal bodies and states for better textile waste management was also emphasized.

The concluding session, ‘Export Enablement, FTA Utilisation and Market Diversification,’ mapped out a robust framework to enhance India’s textile export ecosystem. Participants discussed leveraging tariff benefits from FTAs to stimulate growth, while maintaining an emphasis on sustainability and standards. Strategies to improve the business environment, diversify markets, attract significant investments, and advance product diversity were also key focal points. Discussions included developing in-house design capabilities and enhancing financial strategies to support exports. These efforts aim to position Brand India favorably in international markets.
