SVAMITVA Scheme Sees Over 3 Crore Property Cards Issued Nationwide

As of January 29, 2026, the SVAMITVA Scheme has achieved a significant milestone by preparing over 3.06 crore property cards across 1.86 lakh villages throughout India. This initiative is designed to provide property ownership rights to residents in rural areas, enhancing their access to financial services and boosting economic growth.

In Tamil Nadu, however, the implementation of the scheme has taken a different route. The state conducted a pilot drone survey in three villages but has opted not to extend the scheme beyond these pilot areas. The decision stems from the existence of prior records for Natham areas, which are already inhabited and documented.

State-Wise Breakdown of Property Cards

The distribution of property cards varies significantly across different states and union territories. According to information provided by Union Minister Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh, also known as Lalan Singh, in a Lok Sabha reply on February 3, 2026, certain states have excelled in the preparation of property cards while others have reported none.

In the lead, Uttar Pradesh stands out with an impressive 72,938 property cards issued across 11,412,927 total villages. Following closely is Maharashtra, with 22,609 property cards prepared, amounting to a total of 3,758,310. Haryana also contributed significantly with 6,260 property cards, translating to 2,515,646 issued.

Other noteworthy contributions include Gujarat, which prepared 10,122 property cards, and Madhya Pradesh, which leads with the highest number—39,474 property cards amounting to over 6.5 million issued. Meanwhile, states such as Arunachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Kerala, Manipur, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana have not issued any property cards as of the latest updates.

The Importance of the SVAMITVA Scheme

The SVAMITVA Scheme is expected to revolutionize land ownership rights among rural households in India. By documenting land titles, the initiative aims to empower citizen ownership, reduce disputes over land, and facilitate easier access to loans and government benefits. The scheme is vital for developing rural infrastructure and bolstering self-reliance among local communities.

The diverse outcomes across states reflect varying levels of adoption and potential challenges that each state government faces in rolling out the scheme. While some states have embraced the initiative and registered thousands of property cards, others remain hesitant to implement it widely.

Overall, the SVAMITVA Scheme marks a progressive step towards modernizing land records in India, laying the foundation for a more organized and equitable rural landscape.
