Speedy Justice: Labour Commissioner Targets 178 DMRC Cases

The Office of the Chief Labour Commissioner (Central), under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, has launched a significant initiative aimed at swiftly resolving long-pending labour cases. From June 1 to August 31, 2026, this Special Drive is focused on expediting the disposal of cases in the New Delhi Region, with an impressive initiative to address claims against the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
As part of this effort, a total of 178 claim cases involving DMRC have been earmarked for urgent hearings. The Regional Labour Commissioner (Central) in New Delhi, authorized under the Code on Wages, 2019, has issued formal notices on June 15, 2026, requesting the parties involved to appear on June 24, 2026. This unique approach is designed to cut through the backlog of pending cases and deliver justice swiftly.
All 178 cases have been scheduled for a single day of hearings, which sets June 24 apart as a dedicated day for DMRC-related matters. This unprecedented move underscores the labour administration’s dedication to resolving worker claims efficiently. By clustering similar cases, the initiative aims to tackle numerous issues in a structured and timely manner.
This innovative strategy not only promises to fast-track the resolution of outstanding cases but also aims to restore workers’ faith in the labour justice system. The Special Drive reflects the commitment of the Chief Labour Commissioner’s office to implement proactive and effective measures to deal with case backlogs.
The Addl. General Manager (Projects) at DMRC has acknowledged the importance of this initiative, expressing support for its goals. Recognizing the impact on all stakeholders, including workers and employers, DMRC has pledged its cooperation throughout this process.
The Ministry of Labour and Employment is firmly committed to improving grievance redressal mechanisms, enhancing industrial relations, and ensuring the rights and welfare of workers are prioritized. With this Special Drive, officials hope to create a more responsive and accessible labour administration across the country.
