Salman Khan Takes Legal Action at NCDRC Following Jaipur Court’s Bailable Warrants in Rajshree Elaichi Ad Dispute

Actor Salman Khan has taken legal action by approaching the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC). He alleges that the Jaipur District Consumer Commission acted unjustly in a case concerning his endorsement of “Rajshree Elaichi.” The controversy escalated when the district commission issued bailable warrants against Khan for purportedly failing to comply with its directive to halt misleading advertisements related to the product.

Claims of Unfair Treatment

In his petition to the NCDRC, Salman Khan, represented by Senior Advocate Ravi Prakash, contends that he did not receive certified copies of the district commission’s orders. Despite the orders being reported in the media, Khan asserts that he was unaware of them. His plea emphasizes that coercive measures were taken against him without proper notification. The actor argues that the interim order issued earlier in the case was not communicated to him, and therefore, penal proceedings under Section 72 of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, should not have been initiated without proper service.

Khan’s legal team maintains that the lack of official communication undermines the fairness of the proceedings. They argue that the actions taken against him were unjust, as he was not given the opportunity to respond to the allegations before the district commission moved forward with its orders.

Background of the Complaint

The legal dispute originated from a complaint filed in December 2025 by advocate Yogendra Singh Badiyal against Rajshree Pan Masala and Salman Khan, who was named as Opposite Party No. 2 due to his role as the brand ambassador. The complaint alleges that advertisements for “Rajshree Elaichi” serve as surrogate promotions for pan masala, constituting misleading advertising under the Consumer Protection Act.

On January 6, 2026, the Jaipur District Consumer Commission issued an interim order instructing the respondents to cease misleading advertisements until they could provide a response. However, Khan’s petition claims that this order was issued ex parte, meaning he was not given prior notice or the chance to defend himself before the decision was made.

Contempt Proceedings and Bailable Warrants

Following the issuance of the interim order, the complainant alleged that Khan violated the directive when a hoarding featuring him appeared publicly. This led to a contempt application being filed under Section 72 of the Consumer Protection Act. On January 15, 2026, the district commission responded by issuing bailable warrants against the actor in connection with the contempt proceedings.

Khan subsequently challenged this decision before the Rajasthan State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission. However, his appeal was dismissed on March 16, 2026, with the State Commission upholding the district commission’s order. This dismissal has prompted Khan to escalate the matter to the NCDRC, seeking relief from what he describes as an unfair process.

Concerns Over Legal Procedures

During the NCDRC hearing, Khan’s counsel raised concerns regarding the district commission’s decision to form a Special Task Force to ensure the actor’s presence. They argued that such a directive is unusual in consumer proceedings and reflects an excessive approach to the situation. The NCDRC acknowledged the concerns regarding the lack of certified copies of orders being provided to the involved parties, noting that this issue had been highlighted in media reports.

While the NCDRC recognized the procedural concerns raised by Khan’s legal team, it also emphasized that its jurisdiction is defined by statute and cannot extend beyond the legal framework. The outcome of this case could have significant implications for how consumer protection laws are enforced, particularly in high-profile endorsements.
