Revamped India Code Portal Empowering Citizens with Easier Access to Laws
On August 13, 2026, Union Minister of State for Law and Justice, Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, officially launched the upgraded India Code Portal at Kartavya Bhavan 2 in New Delhi. The event was attended by notable figures including the Attorney General for India, Shri R. Venkataramani, Dr. Rajiv Mani, Secretary of the Legislative Department, Dr. Manoj Kumar, Additional Secretary, and various senior officials from the Legislative Department and the National Informatics Centre (NIC).
The newly revamped portal is a significant advancement in the Government’s ongoing mission to enhance the accessibility of laws for citizens nationwide. By utilizing modern digital technologies, the India Code Portal aims to simplify, accelerate, and expand access to legislative information.
Enhancing Accessibility and Transparency
While addressing guests during the launch, Shri Meghwal stressed the vital role of the Constitution and the importance of making laws understandable and easily accessible to all citizens. He proclaimed that the India Code Portal will serve as a comprehensive, citizen-friendly platform, offering reliable access to the Constitution, Central Acts, Rules, and other crucial legislative information. He commended the collaborative efforts of the Legislative Department and NIC teams for their hard work in revamping the portal.
Shri R. Venkataramani emphasized the transformation from physical to digital legislative access, applauding the user-friendly enhancements made to the portal. He highlighted the necessity for the portal to remain technologically agile to meet evolving demands and spoke to the obligation of legislative officers in producing clear and effective laws while ensuring they are conveniently accessible.
Key Features of the Revamped Portal
Dr. Rajiv Mani outlined the journey of the India Code Portal and the drive to provide authentic legislative information readily available to various stakeholders, including legal professionals, citizens, and government departments. The revamped portal boasts an improved user interface, enhanced search capabilities, and better navigation options to streamline access to laws.
Dr. Manoj Kumar elaborated on the portal’s mission, asserting that access to law is essential for achieving justice. He pointed out the enhancements, such as AI-assisted search, multilingual capabilities encompassing all 22 languages in the Constitution’s Eighth Schedule, and features to simplify navigation and understanding of legislation. This initiative transforms the India Code from a basic repository to an interactive digital gateway to law, aiming to make legal information more discoverable and accessible.

The India Code Portal now offers a unified repository of Central Acts, State Acts, their subordinate legislations, along with Union Territory regulations. Its technological overhaul aims to create a more interconnected and user-friendly legal information framework, supporting not just individuals but also legal professionals and researchers in their search for legislative data.
The upgraded portal embodies the Government’s broader objective of leveraging technology to facilitate easier access to laws, enhance transparency, and encourage greater citizen participation in the legal process.
