RCB Secures Approval to Host IPL 2026 Matches at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium

The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have received official approval from the Karnataka government to host matches for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. This decision comes after a period of uncertainty following a tragic stampede during celebrations for RCB’s first IPL title earlier this year. The approval was granted after a thorough review of safety measures and preparedness at the venue.

Government Approval Following Expert Review

The Karnataka government’s clearance was the result of a meeting led by Home Minister G. Parameshwar, which included an expert committee and representatives from KSCA, RCB, and event management firm DNA. The committee presented a comprehensive report detailing the safety protocols and readiness of the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium for the upcoming IPL season. According to KSCA spokesperson Vinay Mruthyunjaya, the expert committee’s recommendations were crucial in securing the government’s approval. The Home Minister formally endorsed the arrangements after a meticulous review, ensuring that the stadium meets all necessary safety standards.

Chinnaswamy Stadium to Host Tournament Opener

The 19th edition of the IPL is set to kick off on March 28, with RCB facing off against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the opening match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. In addition to the first match, the venue will also host the tournament’s opening ceremony and the much-anticipated RCB Unboxing event, which marks the franchise’s season launch. This year’s IPL promises to be exciting, especially with RCB aiming to defend their title in front of their home crowd.

RCB’s Home Match Schedule

During the IPL 2026 season, RCB will play five of their seven home matches at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The franchise has arranged for the remaining two matches to take place at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Raipur. This strategy allows RCB to maintain Bengaluru as their primary home base while also providing flexibility with alternate venues for a couple of games. Fans can look forward to an engaging season as RCB aims to capitalize on their home advantage.

Gratitude from KSCA

The Karnataka State Cricket Association expressed its appreciation to the state government and the expert committee for their role in facilitating the approval process. They specifically thanked Shri Sreemant Kumar Singh, the Member Secretary of the Expert Committee and Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru, for his proactive coordination. The KSCA acknowledged the diligent efforts of all committee members, whose thorough assessments and constructive recommendations were vital in reaching this significant decision.
