Ramayana Shatters Pre-Diwali Ticket Sales with Over Rs. 25 Crore

Namit Malhotra’s highly anticipated film, “Ramayana,” is making waves even before its official release on November 5. The mythological spectacle, featuring stars like Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, and Sai Pallavi, has already surpassed Rs. 25 crore in advance ticket sales. This achievement challenges the long-standing belief that the pre-Diwali period is unfavorable for major film releases. With just two days left until its debut, “Ramayana” is on track to set new records.

Record-Breaking Advance Sales

Kamal Gianchandani, Chief Business Planning and Strategy at PVR INOX Limited, took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the film’s impressive advance ticket sales. He tweeted, “With Rs. 25 crore+ in advance ticket sales and two more days to go, Namit Malhotra’s Ramayana has shattered the long-believed pre-Diwali jinx at the Indian box office!” He further emphasized the film’s potential, stating, “It is now on course to record the BIGGEST pre-Diwali advance bookings in PVRINOX’s 30+ year long history!”

Gianchandani described this moment as “a phenomenal milestone and a hugely encouraging moment for the entire Indian cinema industry.” His remarks highlight the significance of “Ramayana” breaking through traditional barriers that have typically hindered box office success during the pre-Diwali period.

Changing Industry Perspectives

Historically, the days leading up to Diwali have been seen as challenging for theatrical releases. Audiences are often preoccupied with festive preparations, shopping, and family commitments, leading filmmakers to schedule their major releases for Diwali or shortly thereafter. However, “Ramayana” seems to be defying this conventional wisdom. The film’s remarkable advance booking response indicates that strong audience anticipation can indeed overcome a traditionally unfavorable release window.

As the release date approaches, all eyes are on November 5. If the current momentum in advance bookings translates into significant foot traffic at cinemas, “Ramayana” could not only break box office records but also reshape the industry’s perception of the pre-Diwali period.

Impressive Advance Data

According to a report from Bollywood Hungama, as of November 2 at 10 PM, “Ramayana” had already sold tickets worth Rs. 30 crore across the country. Experts predict that final pre-sales could reach as high as Rs. 60 crore. The three major national chains have collectively sold over 1.50 lakh tickets, with numbers continuing to rise.
