Public Grievances in India: January 2026 Report Highlights
The Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) has released its 42nd monthly report on the Centralized Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS) for States and Union Territories, covering January 2026. The report provides insights into the volume of public grievances filed, the rate of resolutions, and an overview of user engagement with the grievance system, offering a comprehensive view of public service responsiveness across the country.
Public Grievance Statistics
In January alone, a total of 71,714 public grievance (PG) cases were lodged in States and Union Territories. Of these, 64,702 cases were successfully resolved. Uttar Pradesh topped the list with the highest number of disposals at 24,049 cases, closely followed by Gujarat, which managed 6,065 resolutions. However, the report also indicates persistent challenges, as the total backlog of pending cases by the end of January stood at 178,674, with 22 States and Union Territories reporting more than 1,000 unresolved grievances.
User Registration and Feedback
The report also highlighted a surge in user registrations, with 67,728 new users signing up to the CPGRAMS portal during January. Uttar Pradesh again led the way, contributing 11,172 new registrations. The Feedback Call Centre played a crucial role in gathering user insights, collecting a total of 68,727 feedback responses, including 25,259 from various States and UTs, which is essential for ongoing service improvements.
Integration with Common Service Centres
CPGRAMS has been effectively integrated with the Common Service Centres (CSCs), with operations at over 500,000 CSC locations across the country. This integration has proven beneficial, as a total of 13,605 grievances were registered through the CSC network in January 2026. Karnataka emerged as the state with the highest complaints via CSCs, accounting for 61% of the total grievances recorded through this channel.
Training Initiatives Under the Sevottam Scheme
The report outlined the training efforts made under the Sevottam Scheme, highlighting that from the financial year 2022-23 to 2025-26, a total of 1,034 training courses were conducted, which trained approximately 34,812 officers. The number of courses and officers trained over these years points to a significant investment in enhancing the capacity of public service officials.
As part of ongoing efforts to enhance grievance management, the DARPG has introduced a dedicated Review Module starting June 2025 for senior-level case reviews, and monthly review meetings are now held to ensure accountability and effectiveness in grievance resolution.
This latest report from DARPG serves as a critical tool for understanding the public grievance landscape in India, highlighting both successes in case resolution and areas needing urgent attention from State and UT administrations.
