It has established four regional centers located in Guwahati, Udaipur, Hyderabad, and Damoh. LKA provides galleries for artists to showcase their works at its centers in major cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Lucknow, Bhubaneswar, Agartala, and Shimla. It has hosted national-level literary events in various locations, including Kargil, Lakshadweep, Port Blair, Aizawl, Kohima, and Pasighat. SA operates four regional centers in Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Chennai, and has established a North East Centre for Oral Literature (NECOL) in Agartala. This center focuses on unrecognized languages of the North East, promoting relevant publications and organizing language-specific activities. By supporting literary events and initiatives, both LKA and SA contribute significantly to the cultural landscape of India.
Preserving Cultural Heritage
The Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) plays a crucial role in preserving and promoting India’s cultural heritage. With nine regional centers located in Varanasi, Guwahati, Bengaluru, Ranchi, Vadodara, Goa, Thrissur, Puducherry, and Jammu & Kashmir, IGNCA focuses on various aspects of Indian culture, including visual arts, performing arts, and literature. These centers serve as repositories of knowledge and resources, ensuring that traditional art forms are not lost to time.
Additionally, Zonal Cultural Centres (ZCCs) are dedicated to the promotion, preservation, and innovation of arts and crafts from various regions, including the North East. The North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), established in June 1986, focuses specifically on the unique cultural expressions of this region, including its tribal areas. By fostering local talent and promoting cultural events, ZCCs play a vital role in ensuring that India’s diverse cultural heritage continues to thrive.
