Preity Zinta Denies Loan Write-Off Allegations

Bollywood actress Preity Zinta has strongly refuted claims that an Rs. 18 crore loan in her name was written off by the New India Cooperative Bank Ltd. This controversy arose following a report by Moneylife that highlighted significant financial mismanagement within the bank, including unauthorized corporate loans. In response, Zinta’s legal team has clarified her position, asserting that she has fully repaid the loan over a decade ago.

Allegations Spark Media Frenzy

The allegations against Preity Zinta surfaced after a Moneylife report detailed the financial irregularities at New India Cooperative Bank Ltd. The report indicated that numerous corporate loans, some reaching Rs. 25 crore, were approved without the knowledge of branch managers and subsequently became non-performing assets (NPAs) due to alleged fund diversions. Among these cases was the Rs. 18 crore loan linked to Zinta, which was reportedly written off without following proper recovery protocols. This revelation triggered a media storm, prompting scrutiny from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) as they sought to address the bank’s operational issues.

Zinta’s Firm Denial

In a bid to clear her name, Preity Zinta issued a statement through her legal representatives, categorically denying any involvement in the alleged loan write-off. She explained that she had taken an overdraft facility from the New India Cooperative Bank over 12 years ago, which she fully repaid more than a decade ago. Zinta emphasized that her account is now closed, labeling the allegations as entirely unfounded. “More than 12 years ago, I had an overdraft facility with the New India Cooperative Bank. More than 10 years ago, I repaid in full the entire dues in respect of this overdraft facility,” she stated.

Social Media Response

Zinta took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to further address the allegations. She shared a link to the report and reiterated her stance, condemning the spread of what she termed “fake news.” In her post, she expressed her shock that a political party or its representatives would promote such misinformation using her name. Zinta stated, โ€œNo one wrote off anything or any loan for me. Iโ€™m shocked that a political party or their representative is promoting fake news & indulging in vile gossip & click baits using my name & images.โ€ Her statement aimed to clarify the situation and prevent any future misunderstandings.

Ongoing Investigations

As the situation develops, the focus remains on the ongoing investigations into the New India Cooperative Bank’s financial practices. Authorities are working to uncover the extent of the mismanagement that led to the bank’s current troubles. Meanwhile, Zinta is actively working to protect her reputation amidst the swirling controversy. The actress’s firm response highlights her commitment to transparency and accountability, as she navigates the challenges posed by these allegations.
