Over 10,000 km of Roads Sanctioned Under PMGSY-IV
A significant achievement has been announced with the approval of over 10,000 kilometers of road projects under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY-IV). This initiative, which encompasses the States and Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, and Sikkim, marks a pivotal step towards the Indian government’s vision of a developed nation, known as Viksit Bharat.
Infrastructure That Transforms Lives
The newly sanctioned roads will not only enhance infrastructure but are also set to be crucial conduits for bringing about significant socioeconomic change. These roads will connect approximately 3,270 previously isolated habitations, providing essential access to healthcare, education, and employment opportunities. By promoting connectivity between remote areas and urban centers, the initiative aims to uplift living standards and foster inclusive growth in rural communities.
Connecting the Unconnected
Under the PMGSY-IV scheme, the objective is to deliver connectivity to 25,000 unconnected habitations across various regions. This includes areas with populations exceeding 500 in plains, 250 in northeastern and hill states, and those classified as special categories, such as tribal zones, aspirational districts, and areas affected by Left-Wing Extremism, as per the 2011 Census. This ambitious plan seeks to develop a total of 62,500 kilometers of all-weather roads, complemented by necessary bridges to enhance overall accessibility.
Government Commitment and Financial Backing
The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, greenlit the PMGSY-IV implementation proposal on September 11, 2024, for the fiscal year 2024-25 through 2028-29. This financial commitment amounts to a staggering Rs. 70,125 crore, with the Central Government contributing Rs. 49,087.50 crore and the states contributing Rs. 21,037.50 crore. Such an outlay signifies a robust commitment by the government to rural development and infrastructure building.
With this initiative, the government is not just paving roads; it is laying down the pathways to a brighter, more connected future for millions of citizens in rural India. The improvements are expected to have transformative impacts, bridging the gap in the accessibility to vital services and contributing significantly to national development.
