NHAI Extends Clean Toilet Initiative Until June 2026
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is extending its innovative _‘Clean Toilet Picture Challenge’_ initiative until June 30, 2026. This move aims to boost public involvement and enhance the cleanliness of toilet facilities along National Highways. The extension will also improve the processing of rewards linked to the FASTag recharge scheme for participants.
Originally launched in September 2025, the _‘Clean Toilet Picture Challenge’_ encourages travelers on National Highways to report unclean toilet conditions at toll plazas. The response from the public has been remarkable, with approximately 350 users reporting unclean toilets and around 265 earning FASTag recharges as rewards for their efforts.
How to Participate
All National Highway commuters are encouraged to join the initiative by uploading clear, geo-tagged, and time-stamped photographs of unclean toilets via the _Rajmargyatra_ mobile application. Participants must also provide essential details including their name, location, vehicle registration number, and contact information when submitting their entries.
Reward Mechanism
For each valid report, the linked vehicle registration number (VRN) will earn a reward of ₹1,000 (One Thousand Rupees), credited as a FASTag recharge. However, each VRN can only receive one reward throughout the duration of the campaign, and the reward is non-transferable and not redeemable in cash. Notably, each toilet facility can only be claimed for a reward once a day, meaning that if multiple reports are made for the same site, only the first valid submission will be rewarded.
Eligibility and Verification
The initiative applies solely to toilet facilities that NHAI constructs, operates, or maintains. Facilities at retail fuel stations, dhabas, or other public locations outside NHAI’s jurisdiction do not qualify. All submissions will undergo a verification process that includes AI-assisted screening and manual validation as necessary.
Through the extension of this initiative, NHAI continues to underscore its commitment to enhancing user facilities and promoting a collective sense of duty towards cleanliness and hygiene along the highways. This program not only encourages accountability among travelers but also aims to improve the overall experience for all who travel on India’s roadways.
