New SHATAYU Dashboard Empowers Geriatric Caregivers in India

In a significant step towards supporting senior citizens, the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment has unveiled the SHATAYU Dashboard—short for Senior Holistic Care Assistance and Training for Your Utility—on May 22, 2026. This innovative platform allows trained geriatric caregivers to register and offer their services, ultimately aiding those in need in the elderly community.

Managed by the National Institute of Social Defence (NISD), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, the SHATAYU Dashboard aims to streamline the process of connecting trained caregivers with senior citizens. In an effort to enhance the database, caregivers trained in 2023-24 and earlier years are also encouraged to self-register, ensuring the dashboard reflects as many available professionals as possible. This approach aims to facilitate greater access for senior citizens seeking care.

The ongoing efforts to maintain the dashboard’s integrity are driven by a dedicated technical team, which continuously monitors new registrations and implements necessary improvements. This commitment to quality ensures that caregivers can provide reliable services to senior citizens across India.

Accessibility and Empowerment for Caregivers

The SHATAYU initiative is designed to empower caregivers through a self-registration mechanism. This user-friendly approach aims to address initial challenges identified by the technical support team, which is diligently working to resolve any glitches that arise. Moreover, it has been noted that the enrollment numbers for caregiver training are influenced by the geographical location of training centers, indicating that trainees often come from the vicinity.

However, misinformation on social media regarding the dashboard has been flagged, and officials advise the public to refrain from relying on these inaccurate reports. The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment persists in its commitment to creating an inclusive, age-responsive ecosystem that prioritizes the health and well-being of senior citizens throughout the nation.
