In a significant development for rail travel in Uttarakhand, Union Minister for Railways, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, has virtually flagged off the inaugural run of the Ramnagar-Dehradun Express. This marks the first direct Express train service linking Ramnagar with Dehradun, a long-awaited enhancement in connectivity for the locals and a vital step in strengthening transportation between the Kumaon and Garhwal regions of the state. The occasion was graced by the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami, who joined via video conferencing.

This extensive range of options is set to enhance the travel experience for individuals across diverse demographics, including students, farmers, traders, and residents of the region.

Tourism and Pilgrimage Opportunities

Besides catering to daily commuters, the new train service is expected to bolster tourism and pilgrimage activities in the area. It will facilitate easier access to popular destinations such as Jim Corbett National Park, the revered Girija Devi Temple near Ramnagar, and ancient religious sites like Sitamadhi/Sitavani. Additionally, travelers will find it convenient to embark on the Char Dham pilgrimage circuit encompassing Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri through onward connections from Haridwar and Dehradun.

Future Developments and Enhancements

During the launch, Shri Vaishnaw emphasized the train’s role in improving rail connectivity between Kumaon and Garhwal regions. He also announced plans to develop Rishikesh railway station as a feeder station to alleviate congestion at Haridwar, underscoring ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure and passenger convenience.

The redevelopment of railway stations across Uttarakhand is advancing swiftly, with 11 stations earmarked for upgrade, including key locations such as Dehradun and Haridwar Junction. The enhancements aim to improve facilities for middle- and lower-income passengers while minimizing congestion.

Continuous Improvement in Rail Services

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed pride in the new train service, crediting it as a crucial addition to the state’s rail network. He acknowledged the support from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw. Dhami highlighted the recent advances in rail connectivity, mentioning ongoing projects like the Rishikesh-Karnaprayag rail line, which he believes will serve as a lifeline for social and economic development in Uttarakhand.

With a record railway budget allocation of ₹4,769 crore and projects worth over ₹40,000 crore currently underway, the state’s commitment to enhancing its rail infrastructure becomes evident as it prepares for significant events like the upcoming Kumbh.

The event saw participation from various dignitaries, including Shri Trivendra Singh Rawat and Anil Baluni, along with senior railway officials, all sharing a vision of a more connected and prosperous Uttarakhand.
